Hey guys Quick question: does anyone know what those rope windge reels attach to? I mean, what equipment or what have you were they used for? For example, on a battleship, there are all those windge reels scattered around the desks, but what were they used for? Do they usually contain rope or chain or hoses? I know that's usually location dependent but I'm just trying to work out what material they are and used for. Happy to elaborate or provide a specific example if needed Thanks guys

Most times I’ve had to do a lot of research to figure out the answer you’re looking for. On the KittyHawk I found pictures of areas, like the foc’sle I’m recreating, that were clear enough for me to see which ones had chain vs rope on them. For my Enterprise I found a reference to the reel color vs what was in the hoses, I.e. water, jet fuel, foam, etc. for battleships I’d look for pics and see what you can find. Naval archives are a big help if google fails btw

Sorry for my really late reply. TBH I forgot I asked that question. Sadly, Google is of no use to me as the subject at hand is the H Class which never got built. It's all good though, I just winged it and went with what seemed logical

No worries! For that H class I looked at the Bismark when I did mine.
