Has anyone darkened clear colors? I think the correct way is probably simply multiple coats until the " correct" appearance is achived. Thinking like ballistic glass on cockpit windscreens.

When I need darker I use a thin coat of Tamiya smoke first and then the clear colour over that. I never had any luck getting the darker shade just by adding more coats of the clear colour. Not easy to see but the tinted windows on top o0f the Huey are Tamiya clear green over smoke. The green on it's own was far too bright no matter how many coats I tried. Took a lot of experimentation until I figured it out.

Great idea, undercoating with Smoke. I’ll have to try that.

Great idea, undercoating with Smoke. I’ll have to try that. Ben Almost forgot to say I thinned it a bit with some distilled water so it wasn't quite as intense.

Heavily thinned clear colors and multiple coats usually works, but some golds can be difficult to replicate.

I like Tamiya smoke for toning down chrome parts on car models. I've also used it to accent panel lines post shading NMF birds

Wonder if smoke and some clear green would make a convincing factory windshield sun visor strip on an older vehicle…🤔

Wonder if smoke and some clear green would make a convincing factory windshield sun visor strip on an older vehicle…🤔 I would think so. Maybe add a little clear blue to the mix to tone down the green a tad. Ben

Wonder if smoke and some clear green would make a convincing factory windshield sun visor strip on an older vehicle…🤔 It does. I watched one of the Japanese car builders do a Skyline with tinted glass and that's what he did and it was super realistic.
