This is the latest pic I have of my cabinet. I built this about 5 years ago. The glass shelving I had from my previous display in Connecticut. Its 8 feet wide so I have plenty of room. I share a spare bedroom with is also my wife's office and my MIL scrapbooking room. Very nice, TJ. Very organized and neat! I am super impressed with what you all are doing. Hey Greg... I know you are following because you posted to this thread. Here is what I have to say: We have our work cutout for us.

Some great looking displays everyone! 95% of what I have built as of late I donated to a veterans museum. Here's a couple of bad pictures of them as they were displayed there. Nice. I like your donation idea too.

I have two book shelves in my model room that have all my built kits. The ones on the small bookcase are award winners.

Thanks Kyle. The photo of my man cave is a couple of years old now. The empty shelves on the right side are now starting to fill up… The ceiling fan is a tribute to my son. He’s in the Air Force and his first unit of assignment was the 23rd Wing, The Flying Tigers. That’s even more cool! Nice tribute!

So I grabbed some pics of my random displays so you guys could see. First up, the spare bedroom. Found this cabinet at an antique store for cheap Then it’s the dining room. My wife’s antique hutch from her grandma holds a couple completed builds, as well as some bigger pieces of my WIP stuff to keep it safe from cats. That’s all space I’ve stolen from her. lol. Then that bookcase. That gets some overflow. Spare parts, extra tires or engines. Once my wife notices the stuff up there I know it’s time to put it away more permanently. 😂😂 Next up, we go to the mud room. Another small hutch I liberated from my mother. I’ve taken over every shelf but two and I have the second lowest one on my radar next. And finally a trip outside and across the yard to my workshop. An old stereo cabinet that has been repurposed and another glass top cabinet recently picked up at a flea market. Some of my stash on top of each. The boxes to the right of the stereo cabinet are either empty from old builds or maybe have parts in them. A couple bagged kits in there too. Then in the cabinet there are 3 nascars I got for parts or to rebuild some day. 5 bucks for the lot. They’re just stuck in there as somewhere to store them. So that’s the tour of my available display space.

So... I went to IKEA to purchase the case that benb posted up above. I really liked it. But it was not in stock. It was when I checked online, so I must have had the misfortune of someone buying the last one before I arrived? Or maybe it was a mistake. I ended up going with something smaller and cheaper since I technically, am building the first kit that will go inside. For now, I just tossed in some my 1/32 scale diecast cars in side. I think this was a good choice, because It has 3 glass shelves, but you can see in the photo it has the capacity for 3 more, so 6 in total. And when that fills up, it was cheap enough ($70) That I can buy a 2nd one to place next to it in the future. Its also white, so it blends in with the walls.

Very nice case. I like the 510. I have that kit in the stash and did the street version kit some time ago.

project510, it took me a while to get my IKEA display case. It would be out of stock, then in stock but with eye watering shipping charges, then out of stock again. Then, once I checked and it suddenly was in stock and only 50 bucks shipping, so I jumped on it. It was weird. Ben

That is in line with what I was thinking; something I can stand in a corner. A few years back I did some research on these types of cases. Most don't come with lighting. I'd probably get some LED lighting strips. PS: I live near an Ikea outlet. I must take a drive there one day.

Also, my only real concern is dust. It closes using magnets and the side glass panels just kind of set in place. Well see how that goes. If it collects a lot of dust quickly I will put some foam strips on the door to start. I am not sure why, but it also comes with the mounting points for 3 additional glass shelves, but there is no kit you can add on for these. I'm just going to purchase the hardware and try to get replacement glass from Ikea depending on cost. If its cheap I can double the storage space. All in all, I would prefer the cabinet Ben posted, but I wanted something quick to get the cars out of the dust filled garage.

Cases like these often have gaps that allow dust to enter. The question becomes, how big a problem is that? Time will tell but my best guess is it would be minimal. Thanks for sharing what you got. Let us know how it works out for you.

Just don’t have the display room for them with the volume of my builds. Like I could display them right now but I’m not sure for how long. lol.

Wow, I read through this whole thing and I have to say, I am so totally out of line and way behind! What stunning display areas you all have. Most of my models on display are hidden behind boxes of kits I had to bring in from my storage unit so getting pics of most of them would be impossible. Because I have no glass cases (can't fit any in my place anyway) so everything is coated with dust. I do have a small section of shelves that I have cleared a bit for most of the models in progress, but overall, I am out of room. Many of the hidden models are stacked on top of each other since I am completely out of room. My biggest aircraft are all hanging from the ceiling; some 62 at last count, but I think once I get more space to access parts of my ceiling; I could get a few more up there. Almost all my 900 armor models are in tubs because there's no space to display them; I left a few out so I could take them to shows.
Yeah, it's hard to find enough space to display 1737 completed models......

Well, to start off, everything I built from 1946 to 1968 was a lot of U.S.Navy ships, and planes. When I got married and went to my mothers house to pick them up and take them to my 1st house, they were gone. Mom had given them away to all the neighbors kids. So I started over. When I got married the second time, It was a downsized move and a lot of my builds went to club members, neighbors and friends. Since then, I have built a lot of models for friends and neighbors. Some have been built for ex-servicemen. Some have been built for the WWII Museum in Moughton, Penna. plus quite a few that I restored for them. The rest of them are either in the curio cabinet in my workroom, scattered around on shelves in same room, or around the living room (ships only). Just a couple of photos. photos.app.goo.gl/iGwFkMH61DUN2Qnm6I can not even start to think about the amount of models I have built over the years. Toss in all the R/C planes, boats and cars that I've built, I could probably fill a small warehouse. If I thought about all the money spent I'd probably have a heart attack. Stay safe. Jim

Honestly ...... sit on my duff and hope the elves finish what I've started LOL...actually activley looking at kitty proof curiols or cases. Already have plans for most of my planes..9ft ceilings leave a great final approach for 747s to F-16s.
