mrt51 Thought up the idea for this group build back in April, so I thought I would make it official. Original discussion thread is found HERE. After Reading it, and seeing all the amazing airplane builds here on MSC I thought I would give it a try, so it aside from the Egg Plane kit I built recently it will be my first crack at building a real airplane. Im pretty excited. There was a ton of interest, so hopefully now that a date is set we can keep that going and get a nice group together for this one! Standard Stuff: Dates: January 2025 - December 31st 2025 1) Any scale, any P-51 variant 2) Aftermarket items are definitely allowed. 3) Crossovers are welcome. 4) Started builds are fine but its encouraged to start a new kit 5) You can enter any time within the group build time frame. 6) Please post pictures of works in progress. Highly encouraged to start your own build thread to post progress. And lastly, 7) Be social, encouraging and have fun. I will go through the discussion thread and grab a list of those who said they were interested. Just confirm if you are a go/no go. Build Roster: 1. Project510 - 1/48 Eduard Overlord D-Day Mustangs/P-51B 2. mrt51 - 1/32 Tamiya P-51 3. cbaltrin - Airfix or Eduard P-51D-5 in 1/48 4. keavdog - 1/48 Accurate Miniatures P-51 5. thechaos - 1/48 Eduard P51B/C Combo Royal Class 6. kyledehart5 - 1/48 Accurate Miniatures P-51 7. tcoat - Revell Clear Phantom P-51 Mustang rebuild 8. I'm not getting involved in any Group Builds in 2025!
Ok, never mind -- sign me up. Probably an Airfix or Eduard P-51D-5 in 1/48...

I'm in with 1/48 Accurate Miniatures P-51 Very cool! I'm in with many. My first build will be a P-51D-5 1/48 Airfix from the 357th FG Ill get your first choice added to the roster TJ once you decide. Assuming you can do that in the 3 months prior haha. With as many kits as you have you might want to just throw a dart at one your boxes haha. I'm in with 1/48 Accurate Miniatures P-51 Me too. Awesome! I'm not getting involved in any Group Builds in 2025! Ok, never mind -- sign me up. Probably an Airfix or Eduard P-51D-5 in 1/48... Hey, its a year long. Start half way through or start early and finish early! Glad to have you on board! P-51 StashThis is my current P-51 stash… I’ll pick something from there.. Ill get your first choice added once you make it! Like TJ, I expect you'll need some time haha. Welcome aboard!

I may take mine in a bit different direction. I have a rather poorly built OOB version of the Revell release of the Phantom Mustang that for years I have considered pulling apart, super detailing some of the interior to be seen through the clear and painting the rest. This my be the perfect opportunity to have the incentive to actually do it.

I'm in with the A-36 Apache if it fits the theme if not I have alternatives like the F82? I just ordered the F-82. The Twin I'd like to do with one half getting maintenance in Korea. I think the center image with the black back ground is sweet. It'd be my choice.

I'm in with the A-36 Apache if it fits the theme My limited knowledge says that they are closely related. The A-36 coming first correct? I'm fine with it. I doubt anyone here would feel differently as well. Happy to have you on board.

The A-36A is similar to its descendant, the P-51A Mustang. Main difference it the pair of hydraulic dive brakes on wings. We could call it the Mustang Daddy.

The A-36 followed the British orders, though some of the first from the British order went to Wright Field for evaluation. The A-36 designation was a ruse by the USAAF to order the Mustang because the powers that be were determined that the USAAF already had enough fighters, but still had room for attack aircraft.
I will start with a Revell 1/32 P-51D-5.

Well Dang… a ‘stang!!! What’s not to love about that! ! After being sidelined for most of the Spring and Summer with some medical procedures, this would be a great one to kickstart building again. So, I’m in… and I have one started, but still needing more building and paint… it’s been a beast with all kinds of things going sideways on her, but it’s based on the famous beer runs done by the British …mine was planned as an American variant, with a Mustang. Where should we post our thread… in the Aircraft, WWII Allied Fixed Wing WIP area of the forum? …or here in the 2025 MSC P-50 “Wild Mustangs” Group Build area, in January? I’m blanking out on how GBs are done here at MSC.

You can create your thread in preparation if you like, but working on the kit starts in January. This thread is to kick things off, get a build roster, and showcase what you will be entering with.

For what it’s worth, I like the first badge myself. The face adds a nice bit of fun. And I like the art. Can’t wait to see everyone’s builds!

Just FYI for everyone. Most P-51B,C,D,K Mustangs did not have a wire aerial. Most instruction sheets show this wrong. If needed check references.
