An old original issue Heller kit I've had kicking around, decided to build it.
This is what you get.
Yep, that's it. Instructions (?) are one sheet of paper.
This is about as far removed from a Meng as you can get.
Step one is scan the decal sheet so I can print new ones.

Paul, Looking forward to following your build as I've never seen this kit before. Is this kit somehow related to the old Union kit?
So this is how you're waiting for a new supply of Tamiya tape.

I doubt there's much if any difference, other than the box.
And yeah, I felt the need to actually build something, preferably with fenders on it.

I'll be watching for you to work your magic on this! The truth is that every now and again I have this strange compulsion to build a tube frame.

Terrifying. 😂 You are the master of those old Hellers though, my friend. No doubt it will look great.

Paul, Looking forward to your scratch built tube chassis and roll cage, if they actually called them that back in the days.

I like the old Hellers, but this one is a bit of a joke.
This is the "tube frame" as supplied
The floor pan, assembled
So I built the part that cradles the engine, kit part on left goes on top. It's accurate to the car.
Here's where it goes. I already know the engine won't fit. Something is off and it's not me.
Some artistic license may be required, lol.

Your braver than I. I'll be watching for your solution to shoehorning the engine in place.

Paul never lets the shortcomings of an old Heller kit to stand in his way. Looking forward to your next steps!

The problem is the fuel injection metering unit. If I mount it where it usually goes (I think that's what the kit had in mind), the rear window will not fit, by a large margin. It's not fixable that way. If I mount it further down and over (also authentic, depending on the Porsche it went lots of places) the glass will fit but it's too wide for the tube frame. I built the engine the second way.
That's the kit parts, with ignition wires (16 of them), injector tubes added. Belt drive was from the parts bin.
It was a pain and I'm not thrilled with the end result, but I think lots of modifications still to come.

I painted the body (two halves just taped together so I could paint it as one piece), Tamiya pure white. Home printed decals. A bit of an experiment here, as I'm almost out of Testors Decal Spray and no hope of getting more. The chemical composition of the decal spray and their clearcote lacquer is almost identical. Also my supplier is fresh out of TS13 and I'm almost out. So I let the decal ink dry overnight, gave the sheet 2 thin coats of Testors clear and let it dry. The decals behaved exactly the same as when coated with decal spray. Maybe I've found a substitute but the jury is still out. Anyway, decals applied and 2 coats of Testors clear lacquer overcoat. Not perfect but it kind of suits the era of the car.

Paul, You're sure more then up to the challenge. Looking forward to your pictures of the engine at a min dry fitted. I have no fear that it won't. Really impressive work how you got all the fuel and plug lines installed.
