That turned out great! Super finish. How did the kit go together? I have it in the stash.

For the most part the kit was straightforward to build. However, the open weapons bay was a huge challenge. The various rails, missiles, pylons, etc have no positive attachment points and getting them lined up was not fun. I also used an Aires cockpit set, Reskit jet pipe and afterburner, and Reskit wheels/tires.

I used to watch those in the pattern at Fresno when they were there, I often had trips to Fresno with all day standbys. Lots of fun. I get the weathering, but they were very proud of the sixes and I never saw a speck of dirt on any of them. Such was life in the Cal Guard Units.

Really cool scheme on this. That tail was a billboard for all those units who flew the Six

Dang it Rob ( rlhart13)!! A fantastically well built, painted and weathered 106 you've got there. The weathering is just perfect on this and really brings it to life!!

I saw these only at a few air shows toward the end of their service careers, and of course they were all cleaned up for the air shows.

It was like elephants came to town when they had to trade them in for Phantoms. The Sixes were very graceful, usually coming in as two ship and separating on downwind for landing spacing. They would land and roll out in a nose high attitude with the drag chute deployed. The F-4's would thunder off the end of the runway such that you had to feel sorry for the poor sods who lived out there. But it was impressive to see all those afterburners lit up when a two ship of F-4s left at night. And there is just nothing pretty about the F-4 smiting mother earth.
My understanding was that the F-4 was a step back in capability for the interception mission the unit was tasked with but the Six was having corrosion problems and the fleet had to be retired.
