hey guys and gals
So, just finished off this fun "little" project - Trumpeter's 350th "H-Class" theoretical battleship. I'm a big fan of WHIFs and this was an opportunity ot do something a little different from the usual Bismarck grey we seem to see a lot of. I was originally going to do a pretty wild black and red style camo, but I happened upon a picture of a WOWS scheme which I thought was pretty cool, so I went with the pattern but changed the colours to suit my own taste. I hand painted all those little figures on the deck (Tamiya set) with a toothpick and added some ropes and wires etc from the cranes etc - just to add some life into it. The only aftermarket item on this whole kit is the wooden deck veneer. All PE etc is included in the kit which is a nice touch. Painted in mostly NATO Black, flat red and neutral grey - Tamiya LP and Gunze Assembly: very straight forward and pretty much all parts fir nicely. There are some seriously small parts in there too - even by my standards. I thought briefly about adding lights but I just couldn't be bothered - too hard.
I think that's enough pictures. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed building this one. I have the Montana to do as well with all it's PE goodies but not for a while yet I think As always, thanks for stopping by and having a look Si

A "little" project he says.... This look marvelous! The tiny detail looks fantastic and the paint scheme is really cool! Did you use EZ-line for the rigging?

Thanksbud, yeah, it's EZ Line, but attaching it is sometimes not so EZ, at least, not without CA accelarator anyway I really need to get more

Man that is a TON of detail like...... .everywhere!! can't get over the paint scheme and just how well this all turned out from bow to stern Simon. The personnel deck adds a great touch as does all of the rigging and cable effects down to the crane on this thing. I have never built a naval vessel before, but it's builds like this that inspire me to give it a go one day. Master class stuff here bud.

Absolutely stunning and even though a "what if" very realistic in the weathering and camo pattern. For those that don't know what WoW is it is a very popular naval video game that offers hundreds of different camo schemes for the ships. As demonstrated here that offers up the ability to let your imagination run free. Said it before and will say again but I love these WoW inspired paint jobs in general but this is easily the best I have ever seen! Four thumbs up!!!

thanks guys - you're way to kind but I'll take the compliments all the same DUDE! It is spectacular on all points. The rigging, figures, just the right amount of weathering all come together. The motorboats alone look like little kits. As strange as this may sound with all the accolades my favourite part are those props. I have NEVER been able to figure out how to do a decent bronze prop and those are complete perfection that I hope to replicate.

It's funny you say that as the props are some of my favourite bits, too. I learned how to do that from a YT video. They are my first attempt at that style of weathering, and I'm really happy with it. And, it's discoloured using one shade of oil: starship filth. It's a great colour oil. Works with so many things.

Stunning work! I also want to do one of these but in 1/700 scale. Maybe someday. Meanwhile I'm taking notes here.

thanks so much for the kind feedback guys! I must say, its refreshing to see some substance to said feedback other than the usual 2 worded response of "great job" on other sites. Duke, I also built the 1/700 Veryfire release a few years ago and this Trumpy kit is essentially an up-scaled version. Mind you, this is one bloody big ship when done, so if shelf space is limited, then the 700th kit would be fine, but working with PE at that scale hurts my head. One of the best things about these what-if/paper ships is the unlimited potential for applying any scheme you like. I mean, you can still do that with actual real ships, but people generally frown upon you painting a radical scheme that's outside the usual BOG (Boring 'Ol Grey). I also have a 350 Montana in the queue which is begging for a cool scheme to be applied on it. I could go the Measure 42 like the Missouri had, but that almost feels cliche, so I will have to find something a little more interesting. I am open to any and all suggestions but there is no rush

Ah yes, the BA version (Blue Archive) is interesting alright, although this one is equally cool - all be it impossible for me to replicate:

LOL! Those are some impressive paint scheme ideas. For me, I have no problems with 1/700 scale.
I do agree with you about what-if ships; I re-built a 1/600 scale Tirpitz into a modern "what-if" by adding modern masts, weapon and sensor systems on it. I even added a landing platform for helicopters without sacrificing a main turret. My next one I want to do is a "what-if" Graf Zeppelin modified with a Soviet-style angled deck, island and weapon and sensor systems to show what if the Soviets hadn't sunk it as a target and instead over the years used it as a concept ship to learn how to build Keiv-class ships until it was developed enough to be used alongside them.

oh yeah - that Graf Zeplin sounds really cool as does the Tirpitz! You could even swap out the 15" guns for rail guns or use a turret with a futuristic shape (like Space Battleship Yamato 2199). Got some pics? Please do share them - I LOVE whatifs and mods and have a lot of respect to builders who sway out of what's in the box

Tucked away in my retirement stash is a Trumpeter 1/700 Graf Zeppelin and thee aircraft kits. Will will eventually be built as an accompanying piece for a 1/72 Fi167, Ju 87 Stuka and a BF-109T all with folded wings for carrier use. This is a far, FAR distant project though so don't look for it soon. They stopped design work on the T before actually folding the wings so it will be a What If aircraft as well.

This is true (re the Graf Zepplin being a whif anyway), but I do like your ideas. I know what it's like to have these ideas roll around in your head and no time or materials to do them justice, and I'm a patient man for when the time comes to start it. How about the Bismarck? Have you got any pics of that? I'm super keen to see what you did

I did have some pics of the Bismarck I did, but they got erased by my wife when she formatted my drive by accident and wiped out ten years of pics. I can try to get a couple new pics of it. I actually showed it to a hobby shop owner who was former Navy and had a couple Navy customers. All of them said it was very believable. I'll see what I can do to get some pics of it.
Speaking of what-if German carriers, I'm also building a Peter Strasser carrier as well.
Stay tuned!

That black livery would have been quite intimidating to the enemy! Only thing it’s missing is the ol’ skull and crossbones flag to really announce her presence. Very cool idea.

I'm a battleship main personally thanks to WOWSL and carriers s$&t me to tears because of how busted they are, but regardless, I still wanna see what your doing with the Strasser, so yeah, I'm already tuned in

I hadn't actually thought of doing a Pirate style ship before you said that! That's actually a really awesome idea!!! I might steal borrow that. I have a German Z39 Destroyer I could do in some kind captured raider attack boat with a stylized jolly roger graphic. Oh man- thanks for the inspiration Mopar!
I love this site!
