While I'm waiting for the 911 RSR parts to arrive from Hong Kong, I started the Hasegawa Toyota 92C-V to keep myself busy. It's a curbside, but is still pretty complicated, thanks to the way they've done the various intakes. I've finally gotten enough done to post a photo. This one will be out of the box, using the kit decals. Photo via HobbySearch. I've finished the cockpit and I'm about to get started on the suspension. There won't be much to see when it's finished, especially since everything is black. Once the chassis is done, I'll be able to get to the fun part - paint & decals. Masking this one will be a little more challenging than the Tamiya Mazda 787B, thanks to the body's topography around the cockpit and radiator intakes. Ben

Bookmarked this. Great progress so far. Painting this should be a bit of a challenge for sure!

Thanks! I think this one will be a bit of a challenge. The radiator intakes have some complicated baffles inside that don’t fit particularly well, making it hard to build up enough of the body to get it ready for paint. I’m going to wrestle with that this afternoon.

Using the Kitz decals you say?…
I’ll see myself out. Seriously though, I’ll be following my along with this. Love any build involving these types of cars and this one has a wonderful livery. Very sharp. Can’t wait to see it.

The chassis is finished except for the brakes. Now for the fun part. I'll mix up the blue paint while the primer is drying. Might have to go back and fill a couple of gaps on the side panel, too. We'll see what it looks like after I prime it. Ben

Ready to paint the blue parts. I used a lot less tape on this one than I did masking the 787B! Ben

Moving right along. I need to go back and touch up a couple of spots where I didn’t get the tape burnished down and paint the white stripe across the top that I forgot about. Ben

Thanks! It's Hasegawa's recommended mix of 2 parts Mr Color C34 Sky Blue and 1 part C5 Blue. It's a pretty close approximation to the blue in the KITZ decals.

Lovely paint work. I need to force myself to the bench every day. Real life has been sapping my energy and after work I just haven’t felt like it even though I want to. But if I compelled myself I would likely be happier. lol. This is coming along very nicely. Can’t wait to see the decals. Always my favorite part

Thanks! The painting and decals has become my favorite part of building race cars.
I’m privileged to be retired, so I don’t have work sapping my energy, anymore, just life in general. I didn’t get a lot of modeling done back when I was working at my last job. I hope you’re able to find the time and energy to get back to the bench soon. It’s definitely great for calming one’s mind.

The decals are preforming very well for Hasegawa kit decals. The red on the front allows the underlying blue to show through a little, but it’s barely noticeable. I had forgotten to mask the white stripe across the top before I painted the blue bits, so I used white decal film, instead. I also found a mistake in the instructions. They have you open up a slot in the front for the tow ring, but the one they show is for another version of the car. It should have been on the other side where there is a break in the Z decal. No problem opening this one up, but repairing the other opening may be more trouble than it’s worth. Another possible solution would be to use the existing slot and try to paint in the gap in the decal. Ben

Looks great! These cars are so cool. I saw something similar at the Del Mar fair in San Diego years back. The door was open and I was shocked how small the cockpit is. Not for the claustrophobic!

Thanks, guys! keavdog, it’s surprising how small these cars are. They seem to look bigger in photos. The first time I got close to a 962, the roof barely came up to my waist. It was pretty wild! Ben

The whites are actually white, instead of ivory, and they're actually pretty thin. Amazing! They still have a long way to go before they can match the quality of Nunu's kit decals, though.
