Another idle hands distraction in the works. This is another model I started years ago on FSM that got placed back into it's box and put back into the que for too long. I decided I'd do my own thing with this one and I'm just at the point where I'm trying to get the stupid decals to conform into the tiny panel lines as best as I can with set and sol. I forgot that I had a plan to paint these dumb Hino's on back in the day. All of the tiny parts were still on the sprues so I've got all of those to finish but then this should be pretty much finished up quickly as long as I can get the decals to cooperate. Here's a few pics so you can where I'm currently at. I'm doing my best to enjoy this build, but those decals are a royal PitA. I WILL PREVAIL! Grrrr.

Very cool. Love the camo work and chipping. I have no doubt you’ll beat the decals into submission.

A very unique scheme on this. I'll be following along for sure!

Nice. Very different. I don't have one on the stash at the moment but I am watching a couple on eBay.
Looking forward to it finishing.

The decals might need a little more coercion, but they're complying slowly. I don't remember Tamiya decals being so thick. They had some really crazy field applied paint schemes at the end of the war so I took some liberties with what I already had painted on the model before. So this one is just one of those "I'm doing this my way" builds. Hopefully it will look cool in my display because that's all I'm going for with this one.

I'm doing my best to enjoy this build, but those decals are a royal PitA. I WILL PREVAIL! Grrrr. Are you using Tamiya Decal solution (Mark Fit)? I find using Tamiya decal very enjoyable with their solvent. On a side note... I also have a Tamiya ki-61 (1/72 version) that I also started on FSM for the Japanese GB. It's alsmost done, but I have no like motivation to complete it. I got the kit because I heard how amazing it was -- and that part was true -- but I find I just have no interest in this aircraft type (although I like J-Aircraft subjects in general) . I will get it done eventually I hope...

Cool scheme! I built this one a while ago... it's a very good kit! But agree about the Tamiya decals. They are just too thick for my tastes, even when you can get them to settle into the panel lines.

This kit was an absolute dream to build. I'm currently having a hard time hollowing out the exhausts though. They are not the same shape as the 109's are. They have a pinched profile that is very, very tiny even with a magnifier. Fortunately I do have a small enough drill bit. It's challenging though.

I understand the lack of motivation to complete a project. Happens to me way too often. But yes, Tamiya did a hell of a job on the KI-61.

Mike
You've been a bad influence on me!!!😉
I've been thinking of getting a Tony for a while after realising I had a gap in my stash and seeing this has made me press buy on a Tamiya one, albeit the 1/72 version!!
Keep up the good work.
