I watched curiosity land on Mars last night 1:30am and got to see the first two dusty images it sent back before Odyssey went over the horizon. You can check out the NASA site , where I watched it live from JPL here at the link. www.nasa.gov/Or the Curiosity twitter page. Images are here as well. twitter.com/MarsCuriosity

Brought back memories of when the first Space Shuttle was launched 30+ years ago. Watched that live as well, during the day of course.
We should be getting images from Curiosity today with the dust settled and Odyssey gets in range to transmit images and data back to Earth.
Hoping for clear skies this week as Mars will be visible dusk and dawn.....as will Saturn and Jupiter

Yep very cool. Wait until the release some of the HD images from the camera on top. They may also have images of when it landed, slung from the sky-crane. That baby has 17 cameras on it for various tasks....and is Nuke powered.

Like all the others it's stuck there. We don't have the tech yet to return anything we land on other planets. Which is odd because we landed men on the moon in the 60's and 70's. But then it would have to go into a capsule to fly back.

A decade she is scheduled to perform tasks Ian. The opportunity was only suppose to run 3 months...it's been over eight years and she's still working. I think Curiosity will be kicking for 20.

Andy not with the 6" Dob. For imaging I need a different scope and equipment....way too expensive for me.

taking pics of planets would require a scope with the tracking so the scope can stay locked on target, it is something i may do sometime,
