Oh superb info Stik!! Will go check out that site. I was just sitting here deciding how much work to do on the hull. I think I can easily add those “recessed panel lines” 🤣😂 Seriously tho, I think I will add some shadows and try to show some weld lines. Looks like themaddmongoose tape will cover the steel plate width, which seems pretty uniform on these ships from your pics. I’ll see what’s on the museum site.

Bookmarked! There's a few converted WWII ships still cruising the Great Lakes that we've caught coming into port more than once like the Lee A. Tregurtha.

A ship riggers dream! That’s gonna take quite a bit of thread.

I picked up that kit from the O'Brian's gift shop when I visited several years ago. Spent all day climbing around it. There was the most incredible beachhead diorama in the hold. I started the model when I gout home but didn't have the right paint so like normal I put it away and haven't even thought of it since. Now I have to find it and finish I guess. As far as it got. Used to show how big the I-400 is in the same scale.

That pic is from online. Not sure where or if I even saved the couple I took since they were crappy. Check these out www.cnet.com/pictures/jeremiah-o-brien/

Fast progress so far. The kit actually fits together nicely. I’m oil canning the hull today. I keep getting better at this. It’s a technique where I’ve learned the hard way that less is better. Even this may be a little too bold. In the past I’ve ended up losing most of my preshading because I applied the top coat too thick in order to cover the heavy black shading. This one may work out better. We’ll see tomorrow.

Some color on top should give an excellent effect with your pre-shading.

That oil canning effect sure makes a difference in the appearance of that hull Chris and you're off to a great start with this build. Looking forward to the next update potna. Tony ( tcoat): That diorama is just amazing.....

Tony ( tcoat ): That diorama is just amazing..... It really is. There are loads of pictures and a couple of videos online. All 1/72 so reminds me of dukemaddog 's table!

Very cool! Great subject and an awesome reason for the build too. Nice work so far and on the base too. Looking forward to more.

Oh that hull is looking outstanding. That method seems to be working this time around. Far more ambitious a project than I would ever undertake but looks to be worth the extra work.

Those big broad sides will really lend themselves well for a lot of rich weathering.

You guys are great! More progress, tho it’s stopped now for the Browns Steelers game!! Working on the deck now. These seams are finicky. Thought I had them with the ca and spot putty but fine lines are still showing up. I added high build primer as final step. Now I will let it dry till tomorrow, then wet sand and see if that hides the seams completely.

Is it typical for 1/350 ships to have multi-sectional decks? My Revell Tirpitz is molded as one piece. Would be tough to fill/sand a deck with wood plank detail.

Tamiya did both Prince of wales and king George the 5th in 3 pieces, the Enterprise AC was in 3. All my recent Trumpeter kits have been single piece, tho this one is from 2004 and is 3 pieces. I think it’s a company thing.
