This is going to be my latest project, The USS Cowpens Ticonderoga Class Cruiser in 1/350 by Flyhawk! This is the first 1/350 scale ship produced by Flyhawk and my example is the "deluxe" version which has basically everything in the box to complete a highly detailed example. Extra photoetch,3D printed replacement parts, metal barrels, anchor chain, and complete paint masks for all the horizontal surfaces. I bought this as soon as I saw it and just had to build it right away. This looks to be an excellent kit and an extreme upgrade from the Dragon kit.

Ok, here we go. I cut the hull down in preparation for a waterline display, added the main deck, primed, and then used a new technique to add subtle ribbing detail to the hull. Using fiberglass mesh drywall tape as a soft mask, I sprayed black primer through it and onto the pre-primed hull. This created small dark squares with a light border. Hopefully, this "pre-shading technique will offer the effect I am looking for. I also painted the deck surfaces before I add the included paint masks. I used Pollyscale Guilford Gray and will be using Mission Models "medium" gray for the vertical surfaces.

Thanks for tuning in. It looks ok so far. On the plus side I can take my time with the color and build it up slowly, and if I don't like it, I can always cover it totally.
