Here’s what's been keeping me away from the bench. My son bought this truck for $500.00 with a blown engine. It’s a 2000 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 liter V8. He worked and saved up enough money to by a junk yard engine. We swapped engines over the week end and spent a few nights fine tuning it. Runs like a scalded dog now. Still a few little things to fix on it like a left side power window motor, muffler, tail pipe, and a few lights. So far he has less than $1500.00 in the whole project.

That's not bad John, especially when PoP is so skilled in that area right. He'll love cruising in the old truck for sure. Been nearly two years since I had my 1500 Ram. We're all pretty busy this time of year John. I try to hit the bench when I have time, and it's not too damn hot.

Glad your son has a big help... bet it felt good being a good dad. Truck looks like a new!
Now you can borrow it for your next trip to Indy model show so we all can load our stash in the back!

Thanks fellas, It's been a very rewarding project. And yes, The little one helped with the engine swap. That's how I learnt years ago so I gotta pass some knowledge down the line. BTW Ian, There's something women love about a pickup man.

That's very cool on multiple fronts. Not only does your son have a stake in the vehicle in terms of $$ but also knowledge gained from you that he can put to use in the future...while cars today are so heavily computerized it makes it harder for the average owner to do much, it's still good to have some basic knowledge to fall back on. I'll never forget the first time I learned how to change oil and spark plugs with my dad!

BTW Ian, There's something women love about a pickup man. Ian, I coudnt agree more. At least when i was in my 20's I had a 79 model Chevy short wide pickup. Custom black basecoat clearcoat paint and custom interior with a 500hp 468cu. big block and a huge cam shaft that went bumpidy, bumpidy, bumpidy. The girls always wanted to go ride and go fast. Of course i would oblige like a gentlemen....until i made my move and either got slapped or went home with them. Ill admit i got slapped way more often then the latter... ;D Watch out John or your boy will be fighting off the ladies! Gary

wow, that's a cheap-o mate, and nice that you could switch engines! I must admit I don't really like the US trucks or so, but still, I think it's a cool thing that you can do that mate. And nice dollar saving for your son as well...especially at these times. Like Bill mentioned recent cars are like driving computers. Though I'm not really a DIY guy I could save a light bulb on my old car...something which is impossible with the new one ;D btw I was wondering: such a car with such an engine, I guess it probably drinks a fair bit of petrol ey? ;D I assume prices are low over there...hope you guys appreciate that, 'cause over here it would be very expensive to keep that car running with prices for petrol goin' over 1,50 €/litre and 1,40 €/litre for diesel Anywhoo: nice one BJ! Cheers
