Hi All, does anyone have a technique for masking/painting circles with an airbrush what materials to use etc. I want to paint Hinomarus on a current project rather than use the decals. The other question I have is I want to give the project a rather heavy chipping effect so I was thinking silver base coat and salt or masking fluid.... BUT i also want to preshade panel lines, which would look kinda odd , given most chipping occurs around the areas where you would preshade, resulting in a slivery black chip...... Any thoughts ??

Hey Rook!
The quick and easy on the circles is any circle template from any craft /stationary store or even a bolt/drill bit sizing template and with a sharp #11, cut out the desired circle size from masking tape. That's it! You will have the negative and positive so to speak.....lol, the do-nut and the hole! I the case of the Hinomarus, if I am correct, there are two circles. The drill bit template work well as there are many circle that are a fraction of an inch down in size. This way you can have concentric circles easy!
As for the chipping.....I personally would go for the shading before the silver/aluminum coloring and then coat lightly followed by darker around the panel lines so they still show. If you chip your top coat(s) you will see the silver areas as well as the darker pre-shaded areas.
Just my 2 cents!
