Hi Guys, Thought I'd share how well Rob's rusty technique using salt and hairspray has worked for me on the first try. After watching his video of the tank turret I took er from there and used the tech on the iron gate and the barrel. I'm pretty happy with the results. Hope yall like it, and all comments welcome. Cheers, Ski. P.S. Giving credit to Paul Owen of Track-Link.com who graciously provided the Deyun figures for this dio.

Wow, lots of great replies and thx Guys, all of ya.
These are 120mm Deyun figures. I posted the initial build blog on Track-Link last year and went thru the SBS. My intension in posting here was to show the ScratchMod way, and boy howdy, it works well.
I must confess I'm partial to Large Scale Figures in 120mm or better and I really dig figure work. But after seeing Rob's work I had to give it a try. Works as advertised and he explains it well. It fit perfectly into the dio with a derelict gate and rot iron fencing and the technique gave it the age I was looking for. The rest is history, as they say.
A close look at the gate with chain you can see the method has worked just right and not too over done. Most things in Afghanistan aren't well maintained and this gate and iron fence are in need of some tender lovin care. I knocked off the big flakes in favor of a rusted/dusty finish. I tried to keep it in scale and I'm happy with the affect overall.
Now that I have a drawer full of half built rigs I can push it to the max. I'm working a 200mm dio right now, but I'll get to the rusty part in there for sure, it's an essential part of most any dio now!
Thx again Guys. Cheers, Ski.

Hi Guys and thx again for the kind words. Kyle, the link to Deyun Hobbies is: www.deyun-hobby.com/main.html. They were given to me by Paul Owen of Track-Link.net to start a figure blog. I did the entire write-up on the following link. www.track-link.net/forum/modelling_figures/4549. There were serious mods required for one of the figures and the rest were just tweaked as necessary, but they are pretty decent for the most part and the sculpting is good to excellent. This layout was a pain to get the scene the way I wanted and show most of the figures in action using what poses were available. I thought of a side view, but this turned out ok, so I ran with it. I'd do it differently next time however, and show more of a frontal view than curretnly portraid. Cheers, Ski. P.S. Smudge, I'm gonna get you over the the LIGHT side, Oilers Rule, lol.
