Chaps.
I'm after something that replicates the sort of steel cable you find on the cable drums of winches that are fitted to a variety of WW2 Military vehicles. In the past I have used fine string but it kind of doesn't look right, proper metal cable simply isn't really flexible enough.
Any ideas?
Thanks all.

we used to make barbed wire (pre verlinden PE wire ) by using 5 amp fuse wire, which was very fine. grab 3 0r 4 strands about a metre long, fix one end in the vice, the other end in a drill and wind it up to the right tension for your purpose. it stays quite flexible and will have that cable type look as well of course as looking 'metal'. for thicker cables (like on tanks) i use lead fly tying wire. the smallest size can be braide into 4/5/6 strand bunbles depending on the size of cable. its important to use the finest size possible for this. hope this helps

I use fishing leader wire about 0,6 mm for my panzers (that's 2 cm in actual diameter) but I anhealed it over a candle flame. It becomes very soft after heat was applied

Hey Prof, I got some cable from wallmart when on holidays, not exactly sure what it is originally intended for, but it might be just what your looking for as it is quite fine, but the twist is still very visible. It has a plastic sheath, but once burned off its 100%.
Send me a PM with your address and I'll fire you over a length, worth giving it a go first before buying expensive scaled cables.
Chris.

Hey Prof, Sent it off in the post, so should be with you in a day or two. I think it is the beading wire that Mr Abrams has mentioned above. here is a piccy. Chris.
