Hello chaps, simple enough question I hope.
Yes, I may be doing another Military build but the colour always makes me wonder...
Russian Green WW2, it's a bit more yellowy green and that's what I struggle to achieve.
Can anyone advise on what paint either straight out of the jar or mixed is appropriate? please bear in mind I am probably limited to Lifecolor and Tamiya paints.
Obliged as always.
M.

Prof, I can only say that the "one and only" Russian green does not really exist. That's what fellow modellers specialized in Russian armor have told me before I started the build and painting of my first Red army project (my BA 64 I believe you've seen it here ?). I made a mixture but I don't remember exactly the colors. I check the internet and if I find something I will let you know.
Best regards, Guy.

I think you need to look on GB Korea post and on Tony Lee work. I asked him for same question and give answer, Lifecolor set. In a past i was mixed 2 green Tamiya plus couple drop of white, but this LC solution is better.

Yep the 4BO russian green. It actually would all depend on the builder in my opinion. Same goes for the US WWII color, or the panzer grau. We usually go with the basic color and some like myself like to lighten while others will darken the color...so we are happy with it. On the other hand if you want the exact color or shade then you are left with mixing until you get the color right. The AK 4BO CM set has two shades that I think would be close to the correct Russian 4BO....if there is one.
hhmmmmm I shoulld have had a coffee first before writing...but you know what I mean.

Back in MMiR #51 Mike Rinaldi built the Tamiya JSU-152 converted to a JSU-122 and he used Lifecolor UA 001 Dark Green right out of the bottle. No modulation or anything, and it looked really good. After I saw his, I picked up a few bottles, but I haven't given them a try yet.

Hi
For anyone wanting to use a Paint to replicate the Russian 4BO green its advisable to remember that Russian 4BO green was quite a close match in Hue and tone to the Olive Drab used by the Americans and SSC #15 used by the British, so its quite safe to use a Olive Drab paint to replicate 4BO green.

I'd recommend having a look at Neil Stoke's site www.4bogreen.com/colors To make a long story short: if it looks right to you, it probably is, and probably impossible to disprove ;D I used to mix my own from 2 Humbrol and 1 Revell enamel, but now I use Vallejo's Russian Green, which looks very similar to my own recipe but is a lot less hassle. Hope this helps? Dierk

I'm all but an expert, but on my T-34 I've used Tamiya Xf-61 Black Green mixed with XF-4 Yellow-green. The mixture was approximately 2/3-1/3 on the lower parts becoming pure light spray of Xf-4 on the top.
