Because of a self imposed hiatus, now that I am getting back in the grove I find I am way out of practice with the AB and mixing/thinning paints. Worried about tip drying. And the memory just ain't what it used to be.
Would like to here some opinions as to the best thinning options for Tmaiya paints to get nice fine edges on free hand camo. Lacquer thinner, windex, alcohol, tankiya thinner... heard those all mentioned in the past.

I use Isopropilic Alcohol, that is the base of tamiya acrylic thinner. And I thin it about 50/50, sometimes more.

I use their Lacquer Thinner (bottle with yellow cap) and it sprays supersmooth, never a drying tip issue, unlike Vallejo paints or other acrylics
I thin my paints quite heavy, lots of layers are necessary, but you get a nice opaque coat and can do very fine camo schemes
Cheers

Thanks for the input all. Hopefully will find some time tonight to do some re-learning.

I use Ethyl Alcohol 70% and thin about 2:1 (paint to thinner) for starters and adjust from there. I still don't understand why people use lacquer thinner with an acrylic as it defeats the biggest reason to use acrylics which is less toxic cleanup. To each their own I guess. If I am going to use solvents I will use enamels instead. although Tamiya sell them as acrylics, I'm pretty sure they aren't...the smell tells me enough I think Cheers

No offense intended mind you. Tamiya paints are in fact a lacquer based paint that is marketed as an acrylic. I get my best results when I thin them with lacquer thinner.

I've been using Mr Color Leveling Thinner which supposedly has a retarding agent in it that slows down the dry time. I mix with the Tamiya Acrylics at a 1 to 1 ratio. I am no expert, but it comes out of the airbrush and looks beautiful on the models.
