Well I have decided to start this superb kit, I just could not wait until the after-market boys released some goodies. I'm no expert on things with wings or rotors so will not be correcting any errors on the kit instead I'm going to add some extra details along the way and have some fun! Oh and by the way Italeri got it wrong on the box It is HU not UH.

Last night saw me back working on the Wessex generally getting bits ready for possibly adding some more details from scratch. I also glued the nose section together and as you can see some sanding will be in order. The fit was not very good and needed some sanding and test fitting to get a half decent fit. I have found the plastic is very soft on the kit so a delicate touch is required with the scalpel (that's me buggered then!) The exhausts are really awful and to me don't look very round in section so I will attack them with various sanding items and get em looking right. Pete

Those exhausts will need a lot of work to look right... All in all, it seems another Italeri kit, great ideas and awful engineering. The nose section looks easier to fix, I'm sure you'll sort it

Ya see, this is what I don't get. Why is it that their little Braille scale version which I am building at the moment is an absolute peach and fits like a dream, while the big brother......not so much. Weird. Truth be told, this sort of issue put me off most of Italeri's 1/48 stuff. I have built a few Italeri jets in 48th and their F-22 nearly had me in tears! Strange, as most of their 72nd stuff is really nice and generally goes together well. Was hoping they had their act together this time. Looks like not. Oh well, keep at it my friend, no doubt you will create a silk purse from a sow's ear! Cheers, Sam

Cheers guys, Sam I actually think italeri have just scaled up their smaller scale kit as I am really struggling to get a good fit. A perfect example is shown below, Well I spent ages on the nose section filling and re scribing lost details then when it came to fitting part 28b, the nose grill housing the fit just gets worse!! On the real thing this should be flush so again more sanding will be needed. The exhausts where also a pain in the arse, I sanded off the moulded on ribs on the outsides first to get them looking round but during the process I managed to distort the faces! arrgh! this was before I started sanding down the insides. The plastic is so soft. Anyway they eventually submitted and I added ribbing using some metal repair tape. To be honest this kit is sorely trying my patience at the moment and I can't wait for the next problem. Pete

Hi Pete, every kit has it's own personality but it looks like you're pulling her into shape nicely Nice work on the exhausts BTW

Hey Pete, I don't think it is just scaled up from the 72nd version, as the parts breakdown for the nose is different. There is also more detail in certain areas like the floor, and some things my kit does not have at all, such as a rotor mast/gearbox and cabin roof. They may have started with the little brother as a base and built on it from there, faffing things up in the process! Still, think you are doing a great job nonetheless, and I really look forward to seeing this one come together. Cheers, Sam

Cheers guys, I have finally beaten the nose into shape, figuratively and actually! After sanding down the grill housing I again re instated lost panel lines and rivet details. The last bit to give me a fight was the grill it's self but some super glue soon made it submit! I also replaced the moulded inspection cover handles with brass rod, not exactly accurate but it looks better than the kit stuff. The model has now gone for a bath before I start painting the interior.

Nice work there SS Italeri always give you a run for the money but they can be made into very nice models
