That was some very quick building btw. I'm still very tempted to start mine, especially after seeing what you've done here so far.

Thanks for the support everyone, gives this modeller a warm feeling inside Spud, thanks for that reference pic mate! I added some smaller bits like casting marks to the mantlet and collar, and using some thin wire I added the springs to the backfenders. I decided to leave some of the attachment points for the skirts off since I didn't like the plastic ones and didn't want to go aftermarket...keeping things plain and simple...so might not be accurate, but I'm still enjoying it, that's what counts ^^ Anywhoo, after that, I degreased the model using the Zippo lighter fluid and after that gave it a coat of Mr. Surfacer 1200 thinned with Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner. Thin the Mr. Surfacer heavy, otherwise you might end up spraying little threads of Mr. Surfacer onto the model... When that was dry (fairly quick!) I gave the jagdpanzer different coats of rusty colors, all courtesy of Vallejo (Model Air!): First a coat of Burnt Umber, after that in some areas and the lower parts Tank Brown, and after that a thin mix of Tank Brown and Fire Red. It doesn't matter if the paintwork isn't too neat or blotchy, since it's only a baselayer before the basecoat of Dark Yellow. When the rusty colors were in place, I sealed it with several coats of Vallejo Model Air Satin Varnish. This varnish is ok, though sometimes you end up with little speckles, don't like that, but it's the way it is Anywhoo, hopefully I'm able to start the fun later on, or maybe tomorrow: the hairspray tech! Cheers

Looking great Wouts!!! Always good when the color comes out!! Thinking those spots might be a bit of residual Mr. surfacer that was in the AB....hinding from the cleaning lady? But then again I suppose its not unheard of for the Satin to spray funky!! Keep this going...can;t wait to see you chip on down the road on this!!! ;D ;D

Hiya Spud, thanks bro!
T, thanks partner, glad you like the colors! Nope those spots ain't residual Mr. Surfacer, cleaned the AB thouroughly in between. Pretty much always have that issue, even with the satin thinned with their AB cleaner and regularly cleaning the needle tip. Think I might search for another varnish brand ;D
Glad you can't wait for the chipping, I can't as well ;D
Cheers

Might be the way to go...finding another "lead-off" satin to start the game!! I don't use it too much per say, so have not noticed this, but its not out of the realm of possibility that its works exactly as the paints do....cleaning the tip constantly to keep the paints from spitting!! Chip chip chip chip............ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

darn! Wanted to start with the chipping...and I noticed I ran out of Tamiya Dark Yellow I read somewhere that Vallejo paints are as suitable to do the chipping, is that correct?...MMM have to get me some DY tomoz then... Cheers

Very nice job on the painting stage I think many use german camo black-brown from vallejo range to chip...

Very nice job on the painting stage I think many use german camo black-brown from vallejo range to chip... Hi mate, thanks yeah, I know lots of people use that color, but that's when you are chipping using a spongue or a pencil (although I use Iraqi Sand and Primer Red for that), but I'm going to chip away the basepaint on this one using the HS technique Cheers

I'm going to chip away the basepaint on this one using the HS technique Cheers Ops, I had missed this info But I'm rather sure that vallejos can be chipped using the HS technique. AK acrylic paints are vallejos tailored for Mig and they can be surely chipped that way.

Looking good Wouts. I posted my answer/comment on this over on SMA. Basically you can chip any acrylic paint, but the results will vary. One of the biggest things is what you use and hoow much HS or chipping effects you apply. By using a dead flat/matt base rust you can chip the base color better ie: val or AK paints. If you seal the base rust with a satin then it will peal more than chip. Also how you create the chipping plays a big role. Big diff between scrubbing and picking to make the chips. This will give you either dimensional chips or pealed paint. Also, the amount of water you use plays a big role. If you just dampen the area it comes off harder, but that also depends on how much HS and how thick the base color is. Re-wetting the area allows you to create some cool dimensional chipping.

Andy, thanks bro, and you don't have to wait for too long Hiya Rob, thanks for that info mate, I'll stick to the Tammy then...that's the one I used on my first HS try out (Initial Tiger I) I found out I had a bottle of Tamiya Buff, so I went for that one. Just keeping things simple I used a single color and then the fun began! I must say, I had really good fun, next up are the wheels and gun, but that's for another day ;D Cheers

Steve!!!! thanks a lot mate Rob, Glad to read that you think it looks right mate Andy, thanks partner, glad you like the nakedness. now I'm hesitating between two things: A: immediately seal up the paintwork and start weathering or B: spray on remnants of the other camo colors and some very battered numerical decals and remainings of the balkenkreuz' What do you gents reckon Cheers
