EDIT - don't know why some of the images aren't showing. Stupid P-bucket...Here's one of my current builds - Trumpeter's epic 1/32 P-47. It'll be done up as C9*I of GC I/5 "Champagne". Close examination of the pic and other Jugs of I/5 have led me to the conclusion that the profile is missing a red cowl ring up front...so this will ultimately be one colorful T-bolt. Initial test-fitting... The thrilling discovery that all that talk about the internal ductwork being necessary to support the cockpit is a pack of lies! Laying in some PE... Painted...Gunze Mr Surfacer 1200, Tamiya XF-1 Black and XF-16 Deep Green playing the role of Dull Dark Green. HGW Microtextile belts (with Radu's Luftwaffe belts alongside for comparison): (can't seem to get the belts to show...but you can see them here: i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy86/doogsatx/Aircraft/Trumpeter%20P-47%20GC%20I-5/E886EFD3-49D1-4E64-BDC1-5B0C8A861774-13900-000005634001AA64.jpg)

Brembo - I started this with the Hasegawa but it really rubbed me the wrong way (the cowling is idiotic), hence on to the Trumpy.

Everyone likes Jugs!! ;D .........sorry. That's some nice work on the office, bro. Look forward to seeing the rest. Can't say I'm a big fan of the clear cowling, seems a bit gimmicky to me, and hardly realistic! Sometimes I wonder why kit manufacturers bother with weird things like that. Not to worry, I'm sure it will look smashing under a lick of paint! Cheers, Sam

Got some solid progress in last night...cockpit's really coming along. Better slow down or I'll stall out before the Master Details Mk.VIII gunsight shows up. Oh wait...I have a monster of an engine to distract me... EDIT: WTF? Why won't half my photobucket images post? They post elsewhere just fine. Grr...fire two through imgur...

Great office work there Doogs - can't help with the PB issue - it seems to have a funny five minutes now and again, hence my recent transfer to Flikr! Yeah I've been eyeing a move to Flickr myself, if only for the dynamic albums. PB's recent redesign has done away with the image links appearing on rollover, so the ease of posting isn't there any longer. Problem is that I also use Flickr for family photos and stuff and don't want to clutter. Maybe it's time for a second account.

Brembo - I just sold one of my Hasegawas today. The other's going soon. They just don't compare.
Chris - thanks! Though, haven't even really "built" any of it yet...the only glue I've committed has been for the Eduard PE (Trumpy does have some PE in the game, but I'm not using any of theirs in the office). Most of the work so far has been painting and weathering it up. I'm figuring these French Jugs were often as not hand-me-down from USAAF units converting to the Mustang, so I've got some leeway to make it dirty!

It's a lot easier to manage in 1/32! The only PITA is that the color fret is self-adhesive. Stupid, because it makes removing the parts and clearing up the attachment tabs a serious pain. And...still doesn't compare to what Eduard did with the big Tamiya Spitfire. Some of their newest sets (1/32 B-25 PE comes to mind) look like they're a match for this level, though...

That is spectacular!!! Love the details on this!! Edit - Hey doog!! I checked your previous post looking for a PB issue on the pics...The first pic is the copied http and not the img link. Either hit the modify and change or just re-post the pic. I tend to do this as the copied field is directly above the one we actually want to copy!!!

I'll have another look, but everything I've gone back and revisited has image tags wrapped around. I don't know...PB has been wonky ever since they've shifted formats. I keep getting all kinds of errors on the phone app, too. Shifting to Flickr makes sense, I just don't want to go through all that effort!

Flickr may be the way to go for you Doog! Didn't make sence till I looked at the code in there.....hope this helps..... This code: Here is what your post looks like: Looking at the size of the code between the img marks, it just looks like you may have copied the HTML Code by mistake. Give it another shot if you want. Like earlier, FLickr is an option as PB seems to have some issue for many on a daily basis. There is suppose to be one right now....I just haven't noticed yet!

Here is what your post looks like: Looking at the size of the code between the img marks, it just looks like you may have copied the HTML Code by mistake. Ah, I see...that IS the image code, but it's also the "this was taken with an iPhone and has a stupid-long-and-random-filename" code. And I know for a fact that image and code work elsewhere. Again...PB has been weird with me ever since the new format starting rolling out.

Nice work doogs =] ....red ring from a black and white picture....... lol j/k love your builds and work. Heh. I'm serious though. I cut my teeth with photography with manual advance cameras and darkrooms and projectors. I'm not an expert, but I've got a lot of experience with how color shifts in grayscale. For example...consider the wartime photos. We can infer several things from this shot. For instance, we know it's French, and because of that we know the roundel is a blue dot in the middle surrounded by red. That the rudder is, fore to aft, blue white red. The lightness of the blue and the almost black darkness of the red indicates a blue filter (or a film that shifts that way, or just the lighting conditions). Blue filters make blues appear lighter, and reds and yellows darker. This is further backed up by the fuselage and tail codes and ID stripes, all yellow and grungy and darkened backing up the blue filter. So that leads to this profile more or less. But I don't buy it. I contend the thing has a red cowl ring. Most of the Jugs in GC I/5 did. And if you look at the photo above, you can see a sharp delineation between the neutral gray underside and whatever the cowl color is at the time. The cowl appears...a decent match for the dark of the red in the roundels, especially if you consider it looks like the sun was setting basically in front of the P-47 and messing with the light conditions like nobody's business. Now. Look at this photo. farm9.staticflickr.com/8199/8192499630_758c4fda06_b.jpg [/img] In my mind, this settles it. There is so definitely a defined cowl ring there, and red fits. Honestly the idea of the yellow cowl ring seems more at odds, since the other yellows everywhere else appear so dark. Could be that the cowl text is in white and the cowl flaps are bare metal replacements or something. Anyway...put my theories to a lazy Photoshop filter-sliders test, and to me the top one with the red cowl and heavy blue filter is the only I could get close to the way the insignia appears in the wartime shots. I'm really not shooting for anal rivet-counter accuracy here. But I do sense a chance to make this scheme more awesome, and I'll lean toward awesome every time!

More work on Le Jug this evening. First up, the gunsight. The Mk.VIII gunsight Trumpeter provides is way overscale. To the point that I noticed, which means it's huge. Probably like 1/24. So I sourced a resin replacement from Master Detail. But I liked the mounting truss Eduard packs with their interior set, so I cobbled the two together. Then primed and painted the whole thing Vallejo Black. In the office, I got the seat mounted, the HGW harness installed, the oxygen hose finished up, and the rudder pedals attached to the instrument panel.
