Between the 1/32 Jug and 109, I've got two pretty substantial projects on the bench. So I decided to crack into Eduard's 1/144 MiG-21MF Dual Combo. I've had a crazy itch to play with some lawn darts lately, and these qualify without dumping me into another crazy-involved build. They'll be done light, fast, and out of the box. As for paint schemes...I'll be doing the following Czech and Polish schemes. It'll be fun masking the camoflage off on something that's the size of a business card So...off to the races! First up - painting the cockpit. Using some color PE out of a 1/48 MiG-21 as a reference point, I mixed up the interior blue-green using Tamiya Sky Blue and Yellow. Extricated the various cockpit parts from the main sprues and got some paint on them. Also began the detail work with Vallejo Light Gray and Black Gray on the ejection seats.

More progress! Got through main construction last night: Today I'm home alone, so after dealing with the hell of getting the Christmas tree set up I got to do a bit of futzing. First thing - the tiniest canopy masks I've ever seen. Once the masks were in place, I hit them with the same blue-green mixture I'd used on the inside, and also busted out the Gunze Bright Green to spray the panels that are painted green for reasons Google wouldn't cough up immediately. Hoping to mask those off soon and see how far I can get into painting this evening. The bare metal surrounding the engine, certainly, and perhaps the undersides of the two if I'm industrious!

It's amazing what you can get done when the family is out of town! After masking off all the green bits (helpfully, Eduard provides masks for these), I shot the MiGs with Tamiya black, then Alclad Magnesium on the burner cans and on the nose ring of the Polish scheme. The Czech scheme got its white stripe with Gunze C69 Offwhite And the Polish had its can and ring masked off and the underside shot with Gunze C306 Gray lightened up with about 50% white.

Thanks! The color-over-black is working really well on these two! Got the Czech MiG undersided...the profile called for RLM 65, but I decided to go with the lighter RLM 75...now to the LHS to find a suitable brown for the upper camo.
