Just a quick update. This one is ready for the paint shop after I touch up a few minor flaws and seams: I found a pic of an SU-25 in Ethiopian service which will serve as the inspiration for this ones camo scheme. Hope to get some work done on it early in the week, with pics to follow.

So does our Wirbelwind battle mean that this one is getting pushed to the side? Or are you multi-tasking?

Multi-tasking. I figure once the Wirbelwind gets to the paint stage, I can have a marathon session...

Boyd's just covering all his bases by building an AC and an AA vehicle at the same time.

Hey gang I started this build over a year ago, then got sidetracked by armor and other things, so it got pushed to the side. I've been a little motivated to finish it up in recent weeks (it's so close), so I pulled it off the pile of queens and got to work. Basically, it needed a little detail work, a final decision about armament, and paint. So, here is my loadout... I may drop one of the left side fuel tank to add a dumb-bomb on the outer rail... we'll have to see. I also an ready to do the camo. The lower fuselage was painted in a light grey (Tamiya Sea Grey, I think). I sprayed the top with some tan from Model Master, then masked. I will (hopefully) start to apply the camo tonight: This has been a fun build, but I have to say, the quality of Zvezda.... well, you know.... There are a ton of issues with the kit. Mold shift left all the rockets and missles out of round, there are weird fit issues around the engines (which are virtually hollow, so that is another issue). Still, I like the plane and am glad I've slogged through it (I actually considered getting another one - NOT from Zvezda!!!) to do in Turkmenistan markings, because, c'mon, who doesn't want a plane with Turkmenistan markings?? One editorial comment - this kit is, technically a SU-39. I am painting and marking it up as an SU-25. The thing is, the two kits from Zvezda are IDENTICAL. There are NO differences between their -25 kit and their -39 kit (and, in reality, the differences between the two planes are pretty minor).

"Over a year ago"? Look at the date - almost TWO years! Glad to see it moving to the front of the bench...that's a serious load of ordinance there. Blue splinter?

"Over a year ago"? Look at the date - almost TWO years! Don't trifle me with details, Dupes!! And no. It will not be a blue splinter. This is going to be dressed up in the scheme of one of the many 'small airforces' that the SU-25 has been farmed out to... Details to follow.

Guys, I've pretty much wrapped this one up. The truth is, in my opinion, this kit is a dog, so I'm not going to great lengths to make it look great. Fact is, this will never see the light of day beyond my shelf. Still, it was a heck of a lot of fun, and I'd like to build it again - just from a kit from a better manufacturer. So, here are the final in progress pics: Headed to the paint booth for some camo: Markings: I've chosen to mark my SU-39 (uhhh... -25 actually) as a bird from the 2nd Attack Squadron, 2nd Mixed Regiment of the Ethiopian Air Force. A buddy from my club (Thom Ivansoe) was kind enough to make the roundels for me. There should be some numbers on the tail and just aft of the cockpit, but I did not have those, and since this build will only sit on my shelf, I decided not to worry about it...) Lastly, I armed this beast, then did some light weathering (during which I managed to break off one wheel and a rocket.... Oi!!!!) I've got few more odds and ends to add, and I may mess around with this a bit, but for all intents and purposes, this one is DONE.

Which part was dog-ish? Looks pretty solid to me! Hit it with a panel line wash and it needn't live out its life only on your shelf.

I'm sure it looks good from your house... and it is not a bad build. It just has a lot of little issues. As I mentioned when we've talked, it seems like the molds slipped because a lot of the pieces were just slightly misshapen. When I started this, I was not really interested in fixing every issue, so I let most of those go, so there are some fit issues and gaps/alignment problems. I did put the panel wash on it and it looks good. I'm happy with the results.
