I was cleaning up at my business the other day, furniture maker, and came across a product I forgot I used way back in 2004 for one of my interior designers I work with. It was actually still good and I thought I would share it with you guys. It is from Modern Masters. I've seen it in art supply stores and I think maybe Michaels Crafts might even carry some of the line. They make a number of different patina products. This one is their metal coating with their rust activator applied. The metal coating is an acrylic based material and stinks like hell. Very odd smell so you'll probably want to have the respirator on. I think it would be good on exhausts or for heavily rusted areas or burnt out rigs. I did thin it down to a more creamy consistency.

Pretty cool. So is that metal under the paint or plastic?

I made the sample on a piece of plexiglass. Their metal surfacer paint is black. The areas where you see the black vein showing through is where I did a second coat of metal paint and then more of the rust solution on top of it. I also hit it with the blow dryer and it causes it to do the veining. I haven't tried thinning it down enough to get through an airbrush and doubt it could unless it was one with a large needle opening. Plus it would probably gum up the works of the airbrush.
