Well I've taken sometime to consider my thoughts on this subject, how I would communicate my thoughts, what the possible ramifications of my post might be, and a host of other thoughts..... So here goes with my 2 cents.... which is worth half that....LOL
Model of the Month is a VERY VERY COOL CONCEPT. I think most really appreciate having it as an option. What we don't see is the work that must go into the option. No doubt it can be "labour intensive", and hat's off to the bloke that manages it.
The challenges that the site, and our community must face is unfortunately several fold...........
- MoM is a sham, much like a high school popularity contest. It's NOT based on the quality of the work, but the popularity of the work. Now that might sound like "Sour Grapes" and maybe it is, but.... Separate emotions from fact, NOW review MoM you will see the fricking forest through the GD trees. Afterall, how many times can you vote??? seems like unlimited, maybe I am wrong... I, ME, FIRST PERSON SINGULAR have seen the typical IPMS bull$hit were a totally scratchbuilt whatever looses out to some pretty painted Verlinden/Jaguar/Voyager/aftermarket OOB kit, AND NO I am not talking about my FERDINAND. HONEST APPRAISAL of submissions, HONEST APPRAISAL of submissions is what is needed. Or just call the stinking thing High School 101 and be done with it.
- This part of my response is going to be taken "OFFENSIVELY" by some, and well if that's the case, that's the case, no doubt truth F-ing hurts...... In life ALL we have is our word, that's it. You commit to managing a project, then you have made a commitment, you have extended your word. HONOR that commitment, as you would want others to honor their word to you, excuses are like butt holes, we all have them, and they all stink. Yes it maybe true that a person or persons managing this portion of the site has taken on new interests. GREAT, we should all aspire to stretch our fricking GOSSAMER WINGS. BUT not at the expense of our word. We all as adults have faced this situation, we have temporarily, and or permanently OVERCOMMITTED ourselves. It happens, how you F-ing handle that issue is what defines our character. Simply running and hiding makes that person a moral coward, liar and shows to the world that that person has ZERO intestinal fortitude. That person should have been an adult and said something, and or maybe more importantly WE, this site should have had redundancy, a fricking backup. In my world, you are always training your replacement for just such issues.

I will add my .02 cents, because what the hell! All model contests where the contestants are known are popularity contests, duh! When the contestants are not known, they can still be boiled down (gross generalization here) to who is the prettiest. Honestly if your total scratch build project is not finished (paint and weathered) well and an aftermarket love fest project is finished to a master's level, bitch all you want, the finish is important, and to me, the MOST important part of a build.
Everything in life is a popularity contest, that is the human condition. Now maybe if we were all Vulcans things would be different... Life is too short, the sun will go supernova someday, stop worrying about the s*** you cannot change.

Well we all have our opinions, and I respect that, so you won't be banned. As for the MOM, and the forum in general, well I guess it would be my fault since MSC is my forum. I had considered taking down MSC a couple of years ago due to no longer having the time running the forum, along with other reasons. Instead I kept the forum up and running for those who preferred MSC over FB and other forums, and to have a chilled place to hang out. Over the years the forum lost a lot of members and admin/moderators so keeping track of things was a bit too much. During the first few years of MSC I spent nearly all my free time running the forum, sadly more than I spent with my family, and I just don't have that time to devote to just MSC. In the coming months I will spend some time making changes to the forum by eliminating some things and basically down sizing.....or just shutting down MSC for good, still undecided.
I will have to get back to this thread and comment more on it next week when I am back from Wonderfest.

Please don't shut the whole forum down! I'm kinda a "lurker", I don't usually comment on every model shown, primarily because, I don't believe that giving every modeler a congratulatory pat on the back is productive. We all have our opinions, and we all need to respect others opinions as we wish ours to be respected, OUCH! My soapbox just collapsed, so, I will end my soliliquy at this time. If there are any comments, please message me, I do not want to see a "flame war started, Joel.

I second Joel and Steve. For me MSC is the only forum I'm active at, and I decided for myself not start at another, no matter what will be. I was brought here by Dierk, sadly I haven't heard from him for a long time. I'm not keen on reaching as much people as I can with my posts. In that case I would probably use the despised FB. It would seem the world got so short lived, everybody is always searching to getting himself optimized to new conditions and I don't seek to become part of that in the virtual world. Every now and then a new forum get's started, just to be closed down again in no time. I'm looking for persistence. Personally I think, the people that still remain at MSC are the "hard core", whom I consider my modeler friends. We have our quarrels from time to time, but we stick to each other, respect each other, help each other, value our abilities, each of them unique to every individual and after all, it's just a hobby that we share. For sure we all have "the ones" we don't like to talk to, because we simply don't get along with them. You find out soon. I have such persons in the real world as well, at work! We may not have the time to post as often as we would wish, but this is because of our lives outside the wild, wild web. I think it's ok. If MSC gets closed, well, then it may be that way. Nevertheless, to me it would be a loss. A little cleanup should do.

I used to build aircraft when I joined this forum and somewhere along the line I started in autos. Although this place is not primarily an auto forum I was treated very well and made to feel as a part of the group. I've always considered the modelers here to be among the elite in terms of skill and knowledge. They've also stuck out as very friendly at the same time. I'm with Tobi, Joel and Steve on NOT closing the forum down and do understand about the time that it takes to run a forum like this. As was said, family comes first. I got a good dose of that this first quarter for the year. I was spending waaaay too much time in the hobby room and not enough time devoted to my family. I knew better but I did it anyways...............and I heard about it. Nothing is more precious than time with loved ones. Enjoy your time with the fam Rob.

That would be a sad day indeed Rob if the site was to shut down, why not delegate the monitoring of the site to members who have the time. I know a lot of the old members have moved on and started their own sites, blogs, YouTube channels or sadly passed on.
Having the time to post here and run they own stuff as well doesn't leave much time to model as well which I can understand. Having said that I'm with Silverado and I always thought this site had some of the best modellers around and was totally in awe of the models that I would see posted here.
I'll totally understand if you decide to shut it down though but please give us some warning before that day comes. To me it will be like losing a good book or a libary shutting down... so much knowledge that has been passed on will be lost forever.

I guess life catches up to everyone,Todd,Andy, and Leon were mods for awhile, they have a lot going on.I know myself,I couldnt keep up time wise and tech savvy wise, would be fun, but a lot of work.
Helps you appreciate those who do sacrifice their time to run a forum, can't blame anyone from moving on from being a mod.
I know people dislike FSM but it basically runs itself, people post, and mods don't really contribute to the forum, they just police it,probably a bit much. But the mods do nothing compared to other forums, and it still has plenty of regulars contributing.

My "go to" Forum was the LEM until it shut down. I was one of the original members, and befriended Robert (ShermanFreak) on the FSM shortly before the LEM was founded. Since then, I have bounced around on a couple of forums, this being one I truly like. I don't post as much either, with primary job in the aviation industry, and secondary job teaching at a local community college. I do have to say that as forums go, this one has top notched talent with amazing builds. But I can recognize the time and effort needed to run a forum and how it interferes with everyday life. So, best wishes on keeping this one going, but understandable if it closes shop.

Fellas, MSC will stay up and running. When I do eventually decided it's time to close shop I will let it be known first as a heads up before doing so. I will try to post more when I can, even if I just post some teaser pics .

Great news Rob, I know I haven't contributed in the way posting builds because of my health problems but I have totally enjoyed being part of this forum over the years. Great respect to you and all the other fantastic modellers that have graced the pages of this forum with their work... lets hope it stays up & running for many years to come.

Thanks for keeping the site up. This is the first site I ever truly settled in and despite my less than average skills have had over 25 years away - not that I was very good anyway - I got a great welcome and a lot of support. I still lurk about but life prevents me spending as much time on here and modelling as I wish.

Man I NEED to look around the rest of the forum now and then, geez. I had absolutely no idea. Okay, first: Rob, thank you for making the decision to keep this forum up and running. FB is the Devil, just my humble opinion. Forums like this are "pure", if you will. I know first hand about having to make decisions concerning the usage of the too few hours in a day, and my hat's off, Sir. So around to the original subject of the thread: Yup, MoM can be just like IPMS, but ya know, so is life sometimes, and I personally like to see work from threads I rarely have time to look at, like plane things, and cars (even though I'm a career gear-head) and it's like looking at a summation of what went on last month. So maybe anything that is considered "Finished" in a given month automatically goes into MoM..... I dunno, my two pesos.
