Good Evening, As an ardent follower of the Napoleonic period it should come as no surprise that I am into the Sharpe books by Bernard Cornwell. It also follows that the TV adaptations are up there in the DVD collection. In the TV adaptation Pete Postlethwaite played the part of Sgt Hakeswill the arch enemy of Sharpe, the man who was responsible for the flogging Sharpe received in his early days in the ranks. When Pete Postlethwaite died in 2011 The Basement produced a bust depicting Sgt Hakeswill titled "Can you hear me mother?" So it follows that I wanted this one in my collection, despite the fact that the character is pure fiction. So here it is - primed and ready to go, Tunic started, Nearing completion, And almost there and start made on the head, Hope you like, more soon as this progresses. Tim

That's a great start! Nice and crisp colours!
Can I ask what brand paint you used for the white?

DickyF, Spud, ChrisB & Captfue, Thanks chaps. Really enjoying this one and keeping fingers crossed that I can do it the justice it deserves. Not whilst painting though ;D Mack, The white is essentially Halfords White primer. If a figure or bust has a large percentage of white work on it I always go for white primer. All other colours are cut up to the lace work, cross belts etc. If anything needs touching up then I will use Vallejo Ivory White. I only use pure white when highlighting. In the main I tend to paint cross-belts in Ivory white to give a contrast against lacework which in the main Will be the white primer if no touch up is required. Couple more progress shots for you. Trying hard to bring more colour into the face as Hakeswill tended to be a bit on the flushed side in appearance, could also be down to Mr PP having a good night who knows! More soon. Tim

ChrisB, Gary & T, Thanks for the comments. Snuck home early today and did some more on the face. Now this is where I need some honest observations. Should I push things further or does it give an honest impression of the character and of course the person. It could all go pete tong in which case back to square one - what do you think? Tim

Tim....From my memories of Hakeswill on the Sharpe series, maybe a bit more red tone overall, cos he always looked 'hot' to me...and maybe a bit of 5 o'clock shadow.and maybe a bit darker around the eyes.... ?Ie more sunken...? Just my thoughts,mate...he don't look to bad,as is... ;D

Chris, Thanks for the input. I know what you mean, and I think we discussed that when I bought the piece, if memory serves. However, purely for discussion purposes what about this? To get a comparison, placed head on shoulders, So, question is still, what do you think? Tim

Nice work so far.one of the best book series written, thoroughly entertaining, although the TV series just couldn't live up.He was a great character looking forward to see this one done. Ive seen many episodes of the Richard Sharpe character a few years back, being a Sean Bean fan, i enjoyed them but was always a bit put off by the silly small battles they portrayed. Wish they woulda been a bit larger. But i guess budget of a TV series and no CGI they did their best. Still watched it though as i did Horatio "Hornblower" series too. Love the Napolionic era. Great likeness of Pete Postlethwaite's character. Very nice Tim! Gary

Good Afternoon, Not sure where the month has gone - 23 days since last posting! Had a little spare time today and I think I got this one finished at last. Most difficult part was getting the short back and side look to his hair - think it looks ok? Mounted on a base \ plinth whatever, so a couple of shots of how he looks now. Side on and front - Rear - Really enjoyed this one and I think I have managed to get the look that I was after. As ever all comments welcome and hope to be back soon on the RRF figure which has taken a back seat for far to long. Tim

I'd be well chuffed if I got it looking like that, I like the crisp clean look of the painting.
