many many thanks.
thinking about this. i just wanted to see if i could get the way cool rusty look that everyone else seems to be able to pull off. my youngest boy looked at it tonight and said "dad it looks good, but, even rusty metal has some shine to it." he is right. i took some pencil lead and did the same thing i did with the pastel chalk. turned to a nice subtle effect.

Excellent progress so far Joe. this will be great when done and in that scale a real nice modelling statement. If you do consider doing another in the future i think an acrylic Saturn black would be a lot easier to work with rather than a gloss as the gloss does go rock hard as you know, Also in that age of paintwork it wont matter that it is less shiny. Failing that use an acrylic gloss black you will still be able to manipulate it a lot easier. hope this will help make it easier in the future to achieve the effects you have got on this one.

a small update. a mock up was in order to determine what i needed to do yet. here is how she looks. body is not attached to the chasis yet. headlight fixtures not attached. (still trying to decide on whether to wire them or not) and with the body... now for a bit of fun. following my mood the last six months or so i tried something. using milliput i fashoned a covering for the seat. (thanks for that carl) using some artistic license i wanted to show some wear and tear. i fashoned some patches small and large. when that dried it was time for paint. the instructions call for the interior to be painted dessert sand. so i found some sandgelb rcm 79 and painted the interior pieces. i also did up the wheels. all told six coats of paint and the hairspray method again. they have not been dusted yet. well there is where i am right now. comments, criticisms, critiques are encouraged. joe

No criticism here Joe, I think you've nailed the partially rusty appearance really well. Patched up seats add to the overall 'tired' look. Great stuff.

What a stunning job, Joe I truly love it, it's an inspiring build. The overall result is perfect, all the rusty appearance is spot on. The only thing missing, IMHO, is a base to make it stand out even more. Something like the one snipersmudge used with his Simca. But that's a mere detail. Thanks for sharing it
