well moving right along... looking for the next project i decided to try this. revell/monograms 32 ford 3-window coupe. pretty simple kit i thought. something i could play a little with but build somewhat oob. for those that dont know here is the kit. overall not a bad first impression. 7 sprues, 3 white, 2 chrome, 1 clear, and one for the tires. i couldnt help myself. i just had to dig in. first i put the basics for the engine together. i then started playing with the chasis. the front end is suprisingly intricate. wasnt real easy to get together but not real difficult. as with most of this i used school glue so i could get it painted and then i will attach everthing permanently. while that was drying a little bit i decided to see if i could get the body together enough to be ready to paint. i also clipped and prepped the little parts for the engine. now the hope is tomorow to start the painting process. i have a plan for this. comments, criticisms, and critiques are encouraged. joe

Nice choice Joe!! Love these!! Clean building so far too! My only question is the chrome parts...if you plan on painting them you may want to scuff them up if you do not strip the chrome off them. Sometime the paint has a tendency to chip off the smooth chrome finish. Just a thought. I'm in just the same so bring it on!!

So this is it Joe!
Good start mate but as T says, chrome can be a problem if you plan to paint it at all. I prefer to strip it off but your call.
Look forward to an update...

Ah, count me in too

now all of you realize that the whole chipping part just may be part of the plan right?
thank you for the kindness so far. to be honest i am just trying to get this to the point i can spray some paint over some parts. then i can get serious about the building.

geez think you guys might like this adventure. chris rod yes....rat rod chopped........well.............not quite. gary glad you are along for this one. well folks there is a reason i like doing autos. lots of fun and they can be pretty quick. tonights update.....................paint. yep i shot some paint on the body and some other parts........................wait...................back up................. first thing i did was to shoot some flat black on the parts and the body. (no pics) i then decided something just a touch different, flat white on a couple of body panels. want to give it a different color primer look. then i shot some hairspray. just on the off color panels. i then shot rust colored primer over all the parts, minus the chasis, and then i shot hairspray (pretty heavily) over that when it dried. after the hairspray dried well then it was time for the body color. gloss black. again i shot it over the body. slight issue developed. seems i shot lint, clumps, and assorted stuff as well as the gloss black. for this build that will not be an issue but i will need to address that for future use of the a/b. so now i am forced to let this dry overnight. i love rustoleum flats they dry to the touch in about half an hour. rustoleum gloss however takes a good few hours to dry to the touch. so until tomorow my friends. comments, criticism, and critiques are encouraged. joe

well the first of the detours has occured. the paint is a tough nut to crack. did some sanding, some picking, some brushing. all with water. really tough. i got it about as far as i can. not where i wanted it but it is what it is. next up is to work some on the chasis. going to wait till i can do it all at once though.
thanks for tuning in and following along. progress will return shortly on this.

Jeez, it is really looking GREAT already especially the engine. I can even smell the burnt oil from here...

Great job, Joe. The engine looks really old and rusty and the cab is nice. I'd only add some darker areas to those very lighly coloured areas on the lid, they look a little too even...

andy many thanks. i still remember the burning oil smell from my dads cars. for me when i looked at it i remembered the smell of the rust on those hot summer days.
luigi many thanks. not sure how i will fix the even look on the lid. might add just a touch more pastels. i have an assortment of them that i bought at least twelve years ago and rarely used. they are all earth tones. maybe a lighter rust color?
