Howdy Brothas,
Well, it's only been a few weeks, or more, but I think I'm pretty much done with this mini-dio/shadow box built for a buddy who just retired Thursday, Thanks Giving day. I've been working most every day to get this done before his retirement party. The Boat Captain's dio/shadow box looks decent enough too, but it's already in the hands of the MC of ceremonies.
This has been a really good training session for me and a great warm up for some structures I'll be including in "Easy Pickins". I gotta hand it to Chuck Doan for breaching these awesome weathering techniques and sharing them with the paint sniffin, finger gluin community. They really do work for old buildings and crusty, tattered and worn gear. Still plenty of practice needed for me to perfect my skills, but I think I got the concept down. I just need some fine tuning and maybe a bit more camera work, still not completely happy with the pics.
I basically used the hair spray method on almost all of the structure and gear, including the old gas pump made from scratch. I used heavy manila folder for the base and a plastic jewelry tube for the glass. Lots of pounded copper sheet was used in there too. The rest is pretty much basic scratch building and bits from the scrap bin, etc. This was a heck of a lot of fun to build and now I'm ready to get back to figure work, a great warm up for the winter bunker season. Thx for watchin and Enjoy!
Cheers, Ski.

Hi Ski, is there a touch of Norman Rockwell 's inspiration here? If not it is still an absolute amazing piece of work well done mate. Dennis

Hi Steve, whilst chatting away last night at the model club I mentioned Chuck Doan and before you know it phones and tabletss were being scoured for this chap. Everyone was blown away by the results, I can see why you used him as an example the guy is a genius. Being a son of a farm worker I love his work on the Ferguson Tractor. Thank you for pointing me in his direction. Cheers Dennis
