Sorry bout the dull coat issue Ski. I, for my part, use Tam clear x-22 with Tam flat base x-21 About 15% I spray very thin coat at the time. And do some test if you use them. to much flat and it leaves white spots. Gary has an insane flat coat, maybe you could ask him, I don't remember what he use. My two cents. You have a jolly Christmas Ski.

I always 'test-fire' my cans.
I have been caught before not trying them out, and then it ruins something.

I use the Testors ModelMaster Lusterless Flat in the spray-can all the time and when a can gets down to the end, I always make sure it is 1) kept in a warm place a couple of hours before using to ensure the carrier isn't too 'thick' when it aerosols and 2) I shake it very thoroughly for a good 2-3 minutes to ensure the remaining flat-element is mixed well before spraying (alternating the shaking direction up-down as well as side-to-side). The satin/semi-gloss effect you're seeing is likely down to the lacquer carrier to flat-agent ratio not being right and when it dries, you don't get a true flat finish as a result.

Gents, thanks for the input. I did try the Lusterless Flat with the same results.
I'm thinking since that can is still half full it may be bunker temp, being at 60* plus or minus, not warm enough. I will heat the room thoroughly in the AM and give er another attempt. If that fails I'll wait for the Dull Coat.
Thx for the shoulder to cry on Bros, my wife was drenched by the time I was done belly achin, lol. I just haven't had this problem in a long time on such a critical piece.
Merry Christmas Yall. Cheers, Ski.

Hi STeve
It's also a good idea to sit the can in a bowl of hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes before spraying. I think this not only warms the contents so it will mix better, but increases the psi inside the can slightly.
HTH, Tom

Update Gents;
I tried all suggestions to no avail, surprisingly. So, I'm going to wait till my Dull Coat comes in and go from there. This is really a funky problem that can be remedied rather easy if I have true FLAT spray. Since I don't have it on hand, or anything close to reliable, I'm gonna let the jets cool and stand-by to stand-by. Can't afford to be rushing the process this far into the Rugby Match, lol.
Thx for all the comments Brothers, get back to you with updates as soon as possible. Cheers, Ski.
P.S. This is really funky considering I haven't run out of Dull Coat in a long time and the last time I can remember having such a problem was probably more than 15yrs ago, go figure, HA! Gotta love this Sport.

Update to the update, lol.
Ok, got a can of Dull Coat from the big city trip yesterday, worked great on the head and helmet, but the fig still has a bit of a sheen. So, this afternoon I'll hit it again with a light misting and that should bring a dull finish.
Sheeewwwwwwwwww................that was a close call, HA! Thx for the moral support Gents, posting pics as soon as the dull finish is acceptable.
Cheers, Ski.

Yehaaaaa, the rider has been spared the "thrashing" floor, but we still have a sheen that must go.
Honest critiques on the helmet color, if you would please, Gentlemen. I'm thinking a redo, a bit off the traditional Field Grey, but still within the parameters. I looked over many color pics on-line, this is pretty close. But, yall be the judge, I'll redo if the consensus is in the majority.
The head is not fixed in place, still minor details to tend to, but I'm going to shelve the rider for now and get started on the "Ranger" figure in this massive dio.
All comments welcome and thx for watchin. Cheers, Ski.
P.S. Please excuse the poor pic quality, my cam is wiggin out, lol.

Steve,I must be the least qualified fella on this forum,to comment on ANYTHING you work on,but to my eye,the bonedome looks too 'green'?.As for the 'sheen' on the figure,it is not apparent in the images,so again,to my eye,6000 miles away,it looks fine!!

Duly noted my friend, I'm thinking the same thing, gotta get the color back in line. As for that sheen, it's there and it's drivin me batties, lol. Thx for the input Brother!
Cheers, Ski.
P.S. If I do end up redoing the brain bucket the weathering will be quick and easy, just rain marks and filters and a slight dusting to top it off. It was a fun exercise.

Great work Ski love the uniform I think it looks very good. As for your sheen problem give winsor&newton galleria acrylic matt varnish a go. It goes dead flat with a couple of fine coats trough the airbrush. It's my matt of choice after trying everything else it's the one that constantly does the biz.

Well, who'd a thunkit. I ordered the wrong stock number and look what showed up, bahahahaaaaaaaaaa Tsall good, JoeC I got plenty now. Besides, the rattle cans weren't giving me the dull finish. This arrived after I had already used Polly S water base flat finish Friday afternoon, which actually worked pretty good. I'll use the air brush and this lifetime supply of Dull Coat liquid in a few weeks to seal the finish completely. FightinJoe, got some stock for ya buddy!! The helmet was repainted, but still needs a flat finish and some rouge for the cheeks and other minor adjustments. Thx for watchin. Cheers, Ski.

I've been there before in getting the item/stock number wrong Ski! Looks like you've got a lifetime supply of AB-type Dullcote! Hope you have enough lacquer thinner to go with it. Nice progress on the figure!

Ya Bill, got plenty of lacquer thinner at the local hardware store, lol.
I chatted with a few other guys who have had the same problem, no matter the brand. One stated making sure you get a fine mist, not a deluge or heavy coat, then and only then do you usually end up with a complete matte finish. Misting is the key. I've been playin this Sport for years, recon I never really paid attention to that, oddly enough. Learn somthin new evr day, lol.
At any rate, I'm good to go now and thx for watchin Bill. Cheers, Ski.

Unfortunately the rattle can made the same results as before, but the Polly S worked rather well, go figure. I got two bottles for your troubles Brother. I'll send em in with Kirt in the AM.
