Hope your day is going well. Cracked open this kit last night. It's the King Tiger that was supposed to be built back in '09. Better late than never! I'm considering adding Zimmerit to this tank. I have a few questions regarding that choice: A: In the pic below (in Blue) I'm quite sure I should remove that molded on tow cable (regardless of adding Zimmerit or not - it's BAD) B: Do I add Zimmerit before adding the 'stuff' (pic in RED) to the turret? By stuff I mean attachments for spare tracks etc... I have these tracks. Late Production. I'm reading that the Early Production King Tigers had Zimmerit. If these are Late Production tracks then maybe I should abandon Zimmerit altogether? Don't wanna rivet count but at least try to be close. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! YES! I'M SHOUTING THAT. PS: I can't access the Pre/Post Child Forums & therefore this is probably in the wrong place. When I try to enter the child boards it asks me for a password. I tried "Broccoli" but that's not it.

Nice choice Scott. Are you sure it's the 09 kit, looks like the older 70's kit. Any how, good to see you doing armor bro
The sub cats aren't up...I'm having second thoughts on that . Here is a good place for the builds...we can always move things later.

Nice choice of kit to start. Yes add the zimm before you put those track hangers on as it'll make life easier to do so. Late or early tracks mate I'm sure other than a rivet counter, no ones going to notice the difference so go with it mate

It's an older 70's kit for sure. I opened the box and heard a Doobie Bros. tune coming out of the plastic.
I meant, I was supposed to build this in 2009 on SMA...but abandoned...never mind. LOL.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'd remove them, then add zim. Same with the turret, add the hooks later.

I"ve been looking at KT 104. I think I'll go after that kinda look...but not really concerned with 100% accuracy. There are pics of the restored 104 online that show me the placement of the Zimmerit and the color scheme.
I'll start there and the weather the crap out of it and place it on a road/field...during the late spring/summer..IE: not winter.
Other than that...just gonna try to finish it and continue to learn.

hi mate, if you are using the late single link tracks i suggest you drop the zimmerit. you ll need 18 teeth drive sprockets though. and the late production kt had three rows of spare link holders on each side of the turret. some nice camo schemes are possible like the octopus camo. anyway, enjoy the build. Cheers

I hear you however at this stage of my 'armor career' (lol) I'm simply working on technique and not accuracy. I'll add the zimmerit and use the kits' 9 spoke sprockets...just wanna practice finishing techniques.
Eventually I'll work on historical accuracy.

Hiya Scott!!! Probably better being your starting point, that you concentrate with techniques! Like Wouts said, enjoy the build......you know you will be back for more!!! I know you have a nice little Insurgency truck waiting in the wings up there in the Great White North Ey? Nail the techniques on a couple tanks and you'll be good to go!!!
