Hi Paul The crackle is a tricky thing to work with...depending on what effect your after. There are also different mediums available which will also give different results. In that experiment I did a few years back I used a crackle I bought in Germany, and I now have a craft store brand that hasn't been tested yet. There is also the Tim Holz crackle that is very good. What type of effect are you after ??

Hi Rob, tbh I'm not totally sure what I want from it - but something along the lines of heavily flaking paint. P

ahhhh, ok, the heavy flaky stuff is very tricky....and very fragile. You can't do any weathering after that or it will kill the flakily effect. Crackle mainly will....well crack the paint and not really flake it. There are I think some products that d the flakilly stuff...I think !! Take a look at Guy's build and the fenders...is that what your after ?? Old rusty chipping paint !!??

Paul, if it's rusty chipping paint you want, please try Rob's way, it's nothing but big fun. The fenders I've done were my first experience with the technique.
