Tonight i managed to start the painting of the JS-2 i have been experimenting with different greens and studying other peoples builds to get an idea of the perfect green for Russian armour i sprayed a few testers on card before starting and came up with a mix that looked to me ok. 1st basecoat mix:Equal parts. Tamiya ja green nato green yellow green and rubbing alcohol thinner Once this had dried i tried some CM to break up the green a bit i added white to the above mix and masked off certain areas, then i masked in the recognition bands then AB in white once dry i added a few runs with a brush and went over the bands to give an uneven finish to replicate a rushed field paint job. Just a quick question im planning on giving it a AK interactive wash shall i give it a coat of clear before i apply the wash? After a 3 hour stint im calling it a night hope you all approve of my colour choices any comments are welcome. Dan B

Hi Dan, that's brilliant so far, a perfect canvas for the weathering products! I think an acrylic satin varnish will help the AK washes go on, I think - actually I don't use their washes so you should probably see what Rob says.
Really nice work mate! JT

Just a quick update i started on giving the JS-2 a wash of AK dark slimy green and it ruined the paint luckily i only started on the hull so the hull went in for a respray i like the colours on the second attempt so maybe it was a blessing in disguise i applied the AK wash with a brush if i used the AB would it lay flatter and not leave brush lines? im confused once the hull was dry i started adding some scratches and chips i did not go over board as most of the tank will be dusty and mucky i used a fine brush and sponge and vallejo german camo brown. When the clear coat dries i will get on with the weathering hopefully tomorrow morning. Dan B

Right a quick update on the weathering the whole tan recieved some AK streaking grime which was blended with white spirit i used this too darken certain areas too once this was dry i started on the rainmarks i used AK Rainmarks for Nato vehicles this was blended with white spirit. The lower hull was sprayed with a very thinned coat of Tamiya Buff with the AB then another coat of the same but with white in the mix. For the mud and muck i used Tamiya buff with plaster then using flat brush and the AB i splattered it everywhere when this dried i hit it again with brown in the mix there is a few more stages on this i want to try so hopefully this will go well. Right im off into the garden to soak up the sunshine!!!! more soon ......... Dan B

Hi Dan, that's going well! I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with the wash on the hull, it does take a little practice to get good results.
Cheers JT

Dan,
The layering is producing a nice effect. The "drips" on the white markings is also a nice touch...adds to the "meanness" of the look a bit if you know what I mean.

Thanks Wesley with the wood i used Citadel washes i gave it 1 coat of badab black wash then once dry i applied 1 coat of Devlan mud wash once these were dry i airbrushed 2 light coats of hairspray heat dried this then a light coat of Tamiya white do the process of white a few times gives it a bit of depth then use a scouring pad to rub off the white in different areas once this has dried i gave it 1 more coat of washes and your done, If you want the wood to be more brown use more of the mud wash then the blackwash.
Hope this helps Dan B
