Grass?

Hi everyone, I (as you may know) am currently making a dio with a improv bunker (a SturmTiger) by the side of a road, and will need some long grass. I was looking at getting a few shades of this: woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/category/fieldgrass/Is this a good choice (this is my first time getting grass for a dio, as I'm still new to making them), and/or do you have any other suggestions? I am on a budget though, as I'm still a student. Here's the sturm so far, to give you an idea of how much I need: The whole thing will be covered in grass, except for the road and bunker. On a side note, do you think It would be a good idea to make a thread in "The Library" for links to diorama stuff, with categories (grass, bases, etc) to help people out in the future? Thanks! -Oliver

A low cost alternative can be plumber's hemp. That will require careful cutting, positioning, glueing and painting though.

Oliver you can of course use woodlandscenics grass + all the other nice stuff they make for dio's and railroads, but when you're on a budget you can either do as Texas says or do what I do (if thats possible?). When I move the lawn during summer, I pick up a couple of handfuls of the cut grass and put in a box, (in 1/35 scale its tall grass) . So when i need tall grass on a dio it's ready for use, nothing beats the real thing ;D.

Oliver, i agree with the fellas above. I also use Hemp, twine, and a few different items from the spice rack like rubbed sage, basil leaves, parsley flakes and dried cilantro flakes for weed leaves, brush leaves and general scatter. Yeah im on a tight budget. Gary

Agree on using the spices, to that I like to add a light dusting of Woodland Scenics "Burnt Grass - its a very fine powder" in fact adding a little bit of Burnt Grass adds a nice contrast.
