It's probably best that I'm at work now. I really needed to step away from this one, otherwise it would have been soaking in a big zip-lock full of oven cleaner. I'll be able to re-evaluate tomorrow, see where the dry-brushing takes it before I decide what to do.

Well, I did a little dry-brushing and a little cover up, and really wasn't happy, so....... I'll probably have all the tan off by tomorrow morning, and then I'll try again. I liked the chipped-up look, but I'm really trying to depict something fresh from a rebuild/overhaul.

The most important thing is that you're happy with the result Russ, so if the oven cleaner has to do some over-time, so be it! Just remember to have fun with it regardless and you can't go wrong. And I can hear Dicky's cry all the way across the pond!

You guys are crackin' me up....... What wasn't visible in the pics was the very heavy brown areas that I couldn't get to with a brush or swab, but still apparent when viewing the model. I want this one to look freshly painted but dirty, and it was looking badly chipped. It is funny, I've tried to get a chipped look on a light base coat before and not really pulled it off, and here I am nailing it when I don't want it. Oh well. It's now out of the bath, rinsed and drying. I've got to get to the getin' place to get some more paint and then I'm back at it. I liked the Tamiya color, looked spot-on to me, so I think I'll go back with the same.

Ta daa!! I spent a fair amount of time with a jeweler's pick getting paint out of cracks, recesses and panel lines, but the tan is back on. Now to let it dry really, really well.....

It was a tough decision, but I have enough work in this one that I wanted the paint to be right, no "after-build regrets". I plan on using this base kit for a number of builds, so the experience is good, too. In actuality, I have a couple of other IDF builds that I'm not happy with the finish on, so I may re-do them as well, now that I have a better idea of the stripping process. Oh, well, off to Lake Tahoe in the morning, see y'all next week.

Okay, I'm back, and back at it. A rough-in of the detail painting and a wash of Tamiya acrylic brown is on, with the turret scrubbed. So far I'm liking it a lot better than last time, which is a good thing, otherwise I'd have a big knot on my forehead..... I've got more catch-up tp do, but the light at the end of the tunnel is not the train coming to kill me.

The efforts are paying off Russ, it's taking shape for sure as you do the adjustments/removal. Definitely see a difference between this attempt and v1, now I understand why you decided to scrap it and redo.
