Yeah, that size surprised me too when I opened the box. This is the trainer piloted version so it might be a little larger than your average doodlebug.

I like the idea of the buzz bomb in the back, would definitely be something different!

The buzz bomb is a great idea and certainly original. They had to be carted out of there somehow.

Thanks guys. Glad this is keeping your interest. Somehow building a model of a truck has evolved into aircraft modeling too. The cockpit on the real thing was pretty bare bones but Bronco didn't even provide you that much. You get a floor, seat, stick, and instrument panel. Using what photos I could find online - quite a few actually - I added some of the missing bits and downgraded the seat from a nice padded leather seat included in the kit to one that looks like it was fabricated from plywood. It doesn't look like much right now but pretty soon it won't look like much with a coat of primer. I thinned out any visible edges with the Dremel to replicate a scale thickness. Not visible, but I cut off the rudder, and thinned out the ends. Canopy lock lever and some kind of valve jar Pilot radio I think and unknown panel. Once again all totally visible and totally worth all the work. The big challenge was the thinning out the wings to add the wing ribs and dropping the aileron. Still need a little clean up.

Now that's some nice attention to detail. Dressed up the cockpit nicely! Were these meant as 'suicide' planes or did they have some kind of armament for use as a fighter?

thanks all wbill - They were destined to be a one way ticket but then it was decided the pilot would bail out at the last second. This site has some good history and photos www.zenza.se/vw/

That's what I recall was the 'plan' but wasn't sure, unlike the Japanese approach. Cool link!

Still working on this. Progress has been slow. I've finished up the oil paints on the truck and have started work on the figures. The GIs are the Verlinden figures for the Tamiya kit with some head swaps with a diff. Verlinden set. I'm going to need to shave a bit off their backside to get them to seat properly. I want to use the canvas cab cover and right now they are too tall. I've also managed to chip a bit of paint in the process. I've sculpted new arms for the passenger but the sleeve needs a bit of trim as it looks too long. The Flieseler has been sealed up and the missing details added. I do plan on having the canopy installed. The wooden frame is styrene with a base coat of Tamiya Buff. I'm thinking one GI riding in the back will make a nice addition.

Love the subject...and the 6X6 is gorgeous! I love the undercarriage weathering...amazing! You scratch work on the Buzzies interior is very nice, too.
I have to ask....I love the picture shots on the first page, against the white background. How do you do that? I'd love to have a more professional looking final pic look like that with such a lean background. Are there any good resources I can be steered towards for this, or tutorials?

Thanks all. Whiterook - It looks nice and white all thanks to photoshop. I have two beatup white sheets that I'm shooting these photos against. I used levels to bring up the white which knocks back some of the dingy white backdrop. I use a brush or touch-up tool to fix any really funky spots. I just found this. Looks like I need to add a few more missing details www.itv.com/news/meridian/story/2013-03-04/v1-returns-exclusive/

I am just learning to use photoshop to "get the yellow out" of my photos. Thanks!!!

Making nice progress on this one. The figures look the part and adding one in the bed would be a nice touch IMHO.

I just noticed your build for the first time as the 6 X 6 was one of my first Army vehicles I noticed back during WW2. I lived down the block from the Peterbuilt plant and of course during the war years they only built 6 X 6’s and it was very impressive to a young boy to watch about 50 of them leave the plant in convoy every now and then.
That was then and this is now, I went back to the beginning of this blog and have to say I was taken back by the excellent placement of the PE parts which are always a challenge for me. When I got to the Buzz Bomb I could see that there certainly was some pure genius at work here, VERY good job, one that I will remember. Out standing on the mud underneath which is always so hard to get to be where mud should be and not have it where it shouldn’t.

Great story Teabone! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comments all.
Rob - it's a nice little kit. If you want to spruce it up, there are some nice PE sets, wheels, figures, cargo loads, etc for this though some are getting hard to find since the kit is a few years old.
