Not the most glamorous vehicle but seemed like something different to build while I wait for the oils to cure on the Churchill. The PE is from the Verlinden set for the Tamiya kit. The PE and resin bits are OK but not very accurate for some of the parts and the instructions are pretty vague about placement and forming. I was going to leave the side engine panels off to show off the engine, but after grinding away chunks of the radiator to fit and realizing I was going to have to do all the wiring I glued it up. Maybe I can come up with a nice cargo to make up for it. There are a few more small detail bits to add but this should be ready for primer soon. I glad I spent the time correcting the rear bumper plate and adding the missing bolts. You can really see the detail. :x

Thanks all. I added a few other minor details like the tail gate chain and missing valve stems then gave it a good shot of Tamiya grey primer.

Looking great!!! I have been thinking about getting this kit too but I am not too sure if it was used to haul Long Tom gun... because Mack NO 6.5 and M4 tractor were considered primary movers for those big guns, but I don't want to spend $150-$200 on a resin kit for Mack. I couldn't find any picture of smaller truck hauling Long Tom so maybe you have seen one?

Hey Andy, I think the long Tom would be a bit to heavy for the GMC 6X6. Every thing I've seen is the high speed tractors.

BJ, many thanks! I was hoping for a truck to haul Long Tom for a diorama so I thought maybe this will work too. I agree with you that it is too small. Let's hope one day a styrene kit of Mack NO comes out... No way I am not spending so much on a resin kit... Can't wait to see how it comes out...

Very clean building on this one. This is the kit I was thinking about the past couple years of building. Now I have to get my hands on one of these. Looking forward to seeing this one painted.

Sorry I haven't seen your earlier replies. With the new forum changes I have to log in every time I visit and sometimes it doesn't work on the mobile. I thought I had taken photos of the truck with paint but I guess I skipped a step so here it is with paint and the start of weathering with some oil paints trying to add some variations to the otherwise monotone OD. I also airbrushed a little Tamiya Buff onto the windscreen. Markings and instrument panel gauges and plaques are Archer Fine Transfers. Underside is mostly pigments with some AK Engine Grime and oil paints. Still need to add the greasy bits. The model needs to sit for a few days for the oil paints to set up enough that touching it won't rub the effects off the edges.

Fantastic truck MAK! Im very impressed with your weatherin underneath. I was a welder for many many years and we did tons of repairs on oil field trucks and the like. Ive been under 100's of dirty trucks and IMO you nailed it! Well done. Gary

I'm able to log in again so apologize for not responding sooner. Thanks a lot guys, appreciate the kind words. Reading through Rinadli's book, I was inspired to pay more attention to how I can use oils to break up a surface. I wouldn't say this is OPR, more of a modulation with oils since I was treating broader areas. Still a bit to go and some boo-boos to correct like the random yellow mark on the dash. WTF is that? I'm thinking of this as the cargo. A little less slapshod and thrown in, but you get the idea.
