OK Five Guys, you can now take a back seat to the new kid in town! I was over in Bloomington IN the otherday, and came back home via ST RT 46 to Columbus IN. While buzzing north on Washington Street in Columbus I saw a new pizza place that I was familure with up in Deafpanzers area (pucinni's), but about a mile later I see this big house with a sign out front that read "Joe Willy's". I said tomyself that I had to check that place out when I had the time (place was packed anyway). Nextday The Devine Ms G calls me up and says we gotta go out for dinner & drinks. I told her I knew the exact place place about 25 minutes to the south. We go down to Joe Willys, and she was absolutely stunned! Said she knew right away that this place was made just for me. We go inside and she ordered this cheese burger that had blue cheese on it, and I ordered the breaded tenderloin. Both were the best I've ever tasted anywhere! We had them cut both sandwiches in half and split them between up over a couple beers. I could not eat all the food they brought! gary

Sounds like the perfect 'hole in the wall' type place! That's often where you can get the best (and sometimes worst!) food on the planet. Will never forget a little place like that in Amsterdam...best Thai food I've ever tasted...totally floored me as I never thought it possible in the Netherlands.

I wouldn't mind moving to Columbus, just to get away from Indy! Greenwood is evolving into a giant traffic jam. Another good place to visit is the Willard in Franklin, but trust me Joe Willys is better! Now what I'm waiting for is the new Irias store that going in a little southwest of me. I'll live in that place! They will probably break ground this spring. By the way that was my total red meat intake for the week (incase my doctor reads this). I'm down to a size 46 coat now (from size 56). gary

A little bar on Kennedy Blvd in Jersey City ,New Jersey called Narrowbacks,he had a little tiny gas grill, and the burgers took forever to cook, but he had the best burgers and the best chili I ever had.Just about all the guys in our shop used to stop there for lunch, and half hour lunch easily streched to 60-90 minutes. The place has been gone for awhile, but it brings back memories.
It was a diffrent world back then. Now the rule is no drinking ,even on lunch,(it does make sense since we were handling natural gas !!)so the guys on the road can't do that type of stuff anymore.

I don't know how many folks here remember Cgarles Karult that used to do the Sunday morning TV show (think it was called "On The Road With Charles Karult"). Anyway he stopped at two soda fountains in Indiana once and declared them to have the best ice cream in America.I thought both were gone, but the one in Columbus Indiana is still open! They both made their own ice cream and toppings. The one in Franklin was run by a couple very old ladies that I'm sure are gone as the store is gone. I gotta make a trip down there to see if their ice cream is still as good as he said it was. Taverns around here used to all sell hot stews, and I think I must have tried half of them at one time or another. All were pretty good, but some were outstanding! Then there the "Working Man's Friend" located about half way between Deafpanzer and I, and this place is another one of those hole in the wall places you gotta eat at at least once before you croak! Even more amazing is Man's Grill! That place is a legend in it's own time for home cooked meals. Open 24 hours a day, and you get enough food for two people! gary
