Hi all, My little brother got a Challenger 1 kit from our local-ish hobby store a few months ago, and nothing has happened with it until now - partly because he hasn't wanted to work on it and partly because I've been working on my own projects. We (by that I mean I, with him watching ), have now started to make it, only to find out that the !@#$ thing (which is as old as i am) seems to be impervious to plastic cement, super glue, and putty. He then decided that it should be a broken old tank somewhere ( I suggested a range target, etc) and started making a simple diorama base with some foam I gave him. To hide the fact that the upper and lower hulls can't seem to be joined, we/he decided to make it half buried. This is it so far - he's done all of the work on the dio except for the hole for the tank (which I've hot-glued in, btw) and the gluing of the hill onto the base. We are planning to paint the tan in-situe after adding plaster to the dio (not bothering about overspray), and then add dirt, grass, and other groundcover on and around it. I also have some clear resin that I will let him have so he can make water for the stream - I'll tint it blueish/greenish with food colouring, etc. Pics: I will be posting the buildlog of this here. PLease keep in mind that my brother will be doing most of the work, and as he's only 9, it may not turn out nearly as well as the other models around here - I doubt that he'll mind, and it will be fun to help him make. -Oliver

Right on Oliver, it just may be the start of a life long hobby for your brother...just give it some time. He likes the results he'll do another. Im curious though...what type plastic cement do you use? I always use Tamiya extra thin on all models and never had an issue like that. Was it washed off first before trying to glue? Strange indeed. Best of luck my friend and its looking cool so far. Gary

Good idea for a build Oliver, it'll be great to see what you and your bother can do with it
