Hey guys, Just thought I would share some bad news with my new friends. Unfortunately I was made redundant in my job this afternoon Unfortunately there is a downturn in the industry I work in and after quite a few layoffs in recent months, I was the next to go. There were only a few of us left, and I had a bad feeling about things last night. I was employed as a lead design draftsman, and I was told that they could no longer sustain my salary (one of the highest in the business I was employed at), due to the work drying up. I sort of had an inkling it may be coming, but it was still a kick in the guts. I don't hold anything against my bosses, it was purely a financial decision, and an understandable one at that. They are nice guys who were genuinely concerned for me, but their first responsibility is obviously to the welfare of the business. Doesn't make it any less hard though. I am the sole income earner with a wife, mortgage and two beautiful little babies, and two weeks to find a new job. A little bummed out to say the least. Modelling mojo is a bit non-existent at the moment! Sorry to burden you guys with my problems, just needed to get it off my chest. Have started having a look online for jobs, but Drafting positions for guys with Microstation and Solidworks experience are thin on the ground at the moment (read non-existent!! ) Anyway, no doubt the mojo will return with a new job. Still fairly positive at the moment, no doubt that will change with the first round of bills that I can't afford to pay!! Hope your day has gone better than mine!! Cheers, Sam

Bad news indeed Sam. But things happen for reasons we dont always understand at the moment only to figure out later when things are back in order it was meant to be all along. Could be the start of something wonderful soon...fingers crossed my man! Eyes forward, chin up and chest out...now go get-em Sam! Good luck. Best wishes, Gary

Guys, Thanks so much for the encouragement and well wishes, they really do mean a lot coming from you guys! Normally with a job here is Australia, we are given 4 weeks notice, which gives us time to try and find further employment elsewhere, which you need to do in your own time as you are expected to work those 4 weeks. Unfortunately due to the fact that I have been there less than 12 months (8 months in fact), I am only eligible for two weeks notice. On the upside, my boss has said I can take as much time away from the office as I need to chase up work, and I can bill my time to "non-billable" on my timesheet. I have a feeling I will need every bit of it! I have been doing a bit of looking and there is a bit of work out there. I am reasonably confident I can land a job, although whether it will be on the same salary is doubtful. The priority for the moment is just to get a job though. Some money coming in is infinitely better than none. As I said, I will keep you guys posted as events unfold..... Cheers, Sam

Howdy buds! Just wanted to let y'all know I have a job offer on the table! It's actually a company I was on secondment to while at my current employer. I sent them a courtesy email just to let them know I was leaving, as I had built up a good relationship with them and did not want them finding out I had left after the fact. Within 10 minutes of sending the email (and after a very bleak day of job searching) Colin rang me to offer me a spot! I told him I would love to come on board, but we need to keep it all above board, and I would want my current boss to know the situation. There is a good relationship between the two businesses, and I don't want to be the instigator of bad blood. Anyway, long story short, I am going up there for a chat on Thursday arvo to work out the details. Will let y'all know how it goes!! Thanks so much for your well wishes and support fellas, really did mean a lot to know you were all rooting for me! Only two people know the god news so far, but I wanted to share the joy with my buds at MSCF! Cheers, Sam

no notice at all? That's kinda sad! I lost a job many years back with exactly twenty minutes notice and a pat on the butt. Found a new job pretty quickly but at a greatly reduced wage rate. Then Uncle Sam offered me a job that I couldn't turn down for a grand sum of $71 a month net! When I was finally released from his indentured servitude, there were no jobs to be found. But I managed to land one anyway. Came close to being laid off a couple times, but always got by (well I was laid off once for about 16 hours). My name and qualifications hit the super computer list, and was bombarded with offers all over the country. Just hang in there as you'll soon come up with something to tide you over. gary
