I'm in Dallas for a few days and would like to visit a LHS or two.
Anyone have any recommendations for the Dallas area?

Wild Bill's was still open as of a couple of weeks ago, worth checking out as they have LOTS of kits, old and new. Check prices carefully, since they frequently mis-mark things (too low). MAL in Irving is also one of my regular stops, good periodicals, books and a very few kits. I've always wondered why a real hobby shop won't go in Dallas.

If Phil's hobbies were still around...that would be the go to place. But with the internet shops its all over for alot of them. Dont know how wild Bill's place stays open to be honest. Gary

RC stuff keeps Bill's open, same as most of the local "hobby shops", near as I can tell. It seems that plastic and the associated paraphenalia is largely stocked on the whim of the franchise owner. Amen to the internet killling the LHS, but it's quite possible that once individual states get serious about collecting on all the lost revenue due to non-payment of sales tax, we may see a resurgence of the local brick-and-mortar shop. One can only hope...... The business that I owned and operated from 2001 until a couple of years ago put me in a similar position, that of having to compete with the internet venders for retail sales. It's a bitch. I think the positives about internet venders (kit and AM availability) are awesome, and hopefully a balance will be found that allows a well-run and -stocked local hobby shop to be profitable. Ah, Phil's. That was a blow. Here's a story (OK, two) about Phils: Phil knew my wife's name, and would know what I would like for a birthday or Christmas gift; and I once traded to him part of my stash, for shop credit, a group of kits that included an old MP Models M50 kit, which I bought back from a vender at a show at the Mesquite Rodeo Hall last year. Yep, exact same kit, been floating around, untouched, for over 10 years. Karma or what?
