TankArt vol.2 Allied ArmorThe pre-order sale is open, shipping starts in early April. It's been a great start today, and this is crucial for a small company like ours, it does so much to keep our feet under us. I already preordered it. And that was bad for my nerves, as I keep watching the calendar wishing it was april...

I was looking through Vol 1 this morning and found a couple of images that has given me motivation to try something.......sooooo that is just Vol 1, I can only imagine the inspiration and mojo I get from Vol 2 . I have a Sherman and half dozen KV's that will get tested on.

Will it help if I pay extra $5 to get my copy sooner? I don't think I can wait any longer. Bringing Vol 1 with me to Florida for a week long vacation to read thru it again by the pool of course if there are not much distraction... you know those bikini thing.

LOL enjoy the vaca Andy. I keep going back to page 54 in Vol 1. The exhausts and the dark earth effects are what I would like to replicate on my Tiger. I have yet to do dark earth effects and that pic really gets the juices flowing to try it out.

I had the Nikor 60mm lens when i shot with Nikon and it was really good, I use cannon now but i think Nikon have better results in low lighting,
but back on topic, the lacquer thinner paint removal is one i want to try on w/w PZ Iv, I have a pic of a fresh w/w that looks lightly worn and this seems to be the best way to get that result and im itching to try it but i need to finish my Famo first

I have volume 1 and have # 2 on order, but when i look at this type of work,I really want to throw all of my stuff out !! No need for that. There is a something most important in all of this. In design lingo we call it mileage, it's practice based around completion. One of the simple reasons I'm at this skill level is because of the sheer number of models I've produced. It's odd on 70 models in the last 5-6 years. I know this sounds high, and I'm obviously spending a lot of time because it's become a job, but I'd say try hard to get 10-20 finished in the next year or so, don't worry about corrections, PE, and the like and just work on your finishes. I guarantee substantial improvements in skills and confidence. Don't get hung up on the kit itself. It's so hard to get this message through. I have talent yes, I get that. But, and this is the main but, anyone good at anything is because they have put time into it. Modeling is no different, give yourself the challenge to paint and weather 5 models before summer. Just pick one technique per project to really focus on, such as chipping, or pinwash, or pigments, etc. and with the rest just go through the motions to get better at it. After those 5 start to link the techniques together to take it to the next level. And so on... I know life in general will interfere, but try to do this, and next year I promise you'll have a completely different outlook. You can dive into TANKART with renewed confidence, it would really be great to see that happen. Best, Mike www.rinaldistudiopress.comwww.facebook.com/RinaldiStudioWhat he said..lol Have to agree with Mike. I haven't worried about the actual build of a model in years. You can buy every AM product for a model, but it's the painting and finishing that will make or break it. I have seen lots of models at shows that the builds were very nice, with Am items, but the painting and finishing just killed it. For me, every model is a practice model. i try new techniques on each one, and also combine techniques to get different results. I improve with each model. You can only go so far with building a model, but the painting and weathering will test your skills, you'll learn new ones, and each model will be different. oh yeah, don't forget..it's all in the layers.

Thanks guys, what you say is true,Practice does improve your skills,I have definitely seen that in my work. But for some of us there just isn't enough practice time in our lives to improve to that level, and also for most,no matter how much we practice,we will never get to that level. For example I could hit balls every day,but I will never hit em like Tiger Woods,or I could practice every day,but never produce a painting like Picasso.
But I still have fun in what I'm doing and in any progress I do make with models and golf. The books are great to try out techniques, but also just to read and enjoy.
