With this Another LHS find. It went together much smoother than the woofer Altho it had its share of flash and some trifling fit trouble, it was a nice build. My biggest complaint was a lack of positive locator pin/hole ratio, the pins are quite a bit smaller than the holes so a fair amount of slosh is present. Had to pay quite a bit of attention to where things ended up In spite of small annoyances like this I did not bother with a build log on this as it's pretty starghtforward, besides I'm sure many of you all have done one version or another of this kit so why be redundant and waste bandwidth. Regards, Mark

Thanks, Leon building's not hard for me anymore, but getting a good finish paint job, well that's another story. To that end It got dark One of these days I'll try out the black on white preshade but on this one I was too chicken since I wish it to "turn out" as it were. One thing that does not help is that I can't "see" how it ought to be done. Conservative as I am it was a long step for me to try this on the woofer. Regards, Mark

Building out of the box? I know there are some option for the RWS, trumpeter and AFV club offers it. Actually the use of white primer makes the kit more lighter in color and the black give some shadows... if you can check Brother Gary's pre-shading. Cheers, Happy Easter

Howdy ER
Yes, an OOB. I'm not real big on tons of AM stuff even tho many guys achieve spectacular results with it. I figure there's enough surface detail on this one to satistfy the eyeball as it is. Have to look for Gary's technique for sure.
Happy Easter also Mark

ER-God forbid
Nemo-Why silly me, just shows how dense I am when it comes to advanced features. I think this is a rebox, there's a nice sheet of PE and some parts trees that have better molding that others present upon opening the box. You may have mentioned Trumpeter a time or two previously...
Mence-Thank you sir and yes they are nifty kits, could not help myself when I saw it
Bill-I'm figuring a sand finish since most of these I see are green. Also, it will be easy to make all that lovely detail stand out if done in this color.

Mack-A complicated but fairly easy build it was. Filing the almost invisible flash off the mating surfaces slowed it down some but the kit's first rate in spite of this. Thanks for the kind comments Gary-It's not like me to skip about like this but as soon as I got the box open I just had to start it. I think Nemo's got stock in Trumpeter; he seems too delighted whenever one of us ends up with one. Thank you also sir Got the base coat on along with a bit of aging on the tires I did not think much of preshading before, now I don't think I'll ever not do it. No doubt I'll get better at it with practice, but even my first fumbles with this technique are producing results that I like. Regards, Mark

Looks great Mark with regards with the pre-shading you have to do paint it layer by layer with light coat of the base paint, to achieve the effect that your after

ER-I'm trying for that balance. Sooner or later I'll develop the eye Tojo-Thanks, and I hear the AFV kit's supposed to be nicer than the Trumpy Dupes-Gotta agree Leon-Thank you sir Bill-I figured sand would show better variation. Recently I've found some pics of these vehicles painted that color, so I feel better about it Imatanker-I have tha same trouble do not feel alone. What I do that may help is thin my paint about 60/40, crank the regulator up to 40 psi, and get the AB no closer than about 6" or so to the model. It takes awhile to lay down paint in this manner but this way it's difficult to get a solid coat on, which is pretty much what the object is Carl-Thanks man Gary-Thank you also I may add it was you that started me cogitating on this technique Got the 1st protective coat on and pinwash. Tires dry fit I sit at the bench and think "Not alot of difference this makes" and then look at the previous set of pictures on the thread and feel foolish. Trumpy added a nice little driver's hatch windscreen with side windows which I'd love to use, but I could fudge it but I think it'll look stupid. Can't make up my mind, whaddya guys think? Regards, Mark

Foolish about what ? I see some diff after the pin wash . You can always add more . I like the looks of the wind screen . It adds a nice touch of personalism (word?) .

Mark, thanks for the tips,I like the pinwash and the tires look good too.I think this will be a great looking build when you are done. Dicky, got a question for ya,what are the two things mounted on the rear antenna mast? The one on the front mast looks like a bedroll. Jeff T.

They're empty water bottles Jeff - crews put Cylume Lightsticks in them to avoid Green on Green action! Ah-Ha,The light comes on,so to speak I thought that was what they where but couldn't figure out why. That's a great piece of info. Thanks Jeff T.

That top-down shot really shows the difference between the pin wash step and the previous work Mark. I know how you feel, sometimes you get too close to the subject and don't think much has happened. That's why taking lots of photos is good...the camera sees all! The sand color is really working out nicely.

Thank you all gentlemen Taking up Nemo's statement I spent a couple of hours looking at Stryker pics and nowhere did I see one with the windscreen attatchment, so I reluctantly decided not to include it. Carl, I thought it was nifty also but if it ain't accurate... This one's 95% done and will stay that way for awhile. It will be part of a diorama with another vehicle; it still needs dust and assorted stowage but within the next week or so the basement, including my cave, is going to be dismembered and redone. I'll be hanging sheetrock and running mud instead of building tanks for awhile. Will be back after the break Regards, Mark
