I'v seen many posts about wash/no wash, prime /no prime and so forth. But I don't recall anything about sanding parts before or after priming to help the primer or paint sticking. So here it is,do you guys sand you parts before priming them, and do you sand your primer to help your topcoats stick? Thanks,Jeff T.

I don't sand before or after, except when I have to.

I'll also add that the only thing I do on armor models is to give the completed model a bath in the kitchen sink with a few drops of dawn dish soap. This removes skin oils and fine construction dust and any other contaminations that might interfere with paint adhesion.

Never sanded prior to painting. Proper thinning and airbrush application do all the work in that department.

Hey Jeff, Ill only sand areas that ive trimmed, cleaned or modified....generally. I do however clean the surface to be primed with 91% iso alcohol...just to be sure. I thin all my Tamiya primer and paints with Lacquer thinner and it bites into the surface like a Shark on a hunk-o-chum! Gary

Gary I will generaly use windex to clean my parts.I didn't last night when I primed some parts with the Vallejo stuff and every fingerprint showed >:DI ended up washing all the parts down and re-spraying them.Washed or not washed, that has never happened with the Tamiya spray primer. Are you using the bottled stuff for primer? J.

J. Hey Jeff, What i use for primer is Tamiya Grey Liquid Surface primer in the square bottle. But if My local HS doesnt have it in stock ill buy Tamiya Grey primer in the rattle can and decant into a bottle and use i my airbrush....both are Excellent! I use Tamiya Lacquer thinner or Klean-Strip brand Lacquer Thinner. The Klean-Strip work freakin awesome in the primer and paint. Gary
