Posting to a blog ????????????????

I have only been posting to Blogs since January first of this year, Iv been building models for 5 or 6 years and never would have started except for sites like MSCF where I was able to ask questions, which began with "what is the best kit for a beginner," and to see the work of some exceptional builders who freely shared their thoughts and skills with me.

In January I thought maybe I should share some of my builds by joining in on a build blog and show my work.  I initially showed pictures of kits I had built in the past but had build pictures of and this worked well.  As I watched the blogs I could see that the majority of builders so their pictures as the build which makes it interesting and allows for timely questions.  The bad news here is that taking pictures has never been my strong suit and then there is processing them from RAW to Jpg etc that has to be done along with the fact that when on a roll forgetting to take pictures of a portion of the build seems to occur. 

As an alternate I have been thinking of 1.) Dropping back to showing my work after the fact in a fashion like it is being built or 2.) Just post them in one big slug when complete.

The problem is that ongoing build/picture taking is distracting to my building.  My talents are not such that too many really  learn anything from my methods and if they do it would not matter if I was posting them after completion.  Does anyone else post after completion or are you all post as building.

Hey Bones,

Your not along with forgetting to take pictures, or trying to edit them to look good. A lot of us like lots of in progress pics. But the way I look at it, it’s all in how you want to share your work. Be it in progress pics, or completed pics. I would leave that totally to the individual posting the blog.

The fellas pretty much covered it here it seems. Build and blog if and how you like. Personally I like to watch the progression through the build culminating a final presentation. I you like to take pics along the way and fully upload everything at once, so be it! Want to show just the finals? Go ahead!

Part of a lot of taking blog pics, rendered or otherwise,is if you are going for a presentation look on a website or publication. Like myself and a few others we take hundreds if not thousands of pics during a build. Posting only the ones we wish to share to get the point across and then submit others for articles and whatnot. Sometimes it is easier to post bench pics or a couple of quickies other time 10 or 12 suffice. People like to follow along with a build and often they can pick up techniques on how things are done a different way or enjoy the build up.

In the end the hobby is suppose to be fun. I enjoy taking the pics (for the most part) and enjoy sharing the pics (all the time) but if it is a huge hassle or no fun at all, then personally I don't see the point at the time. You need to enjoy what you are doing. Taking pictures at different stages becomes a habit and you begin to see the "story" emerge and post how you are doing.

Just be happy at what you are doing...and the run with it!!

I am not familiar with the "auto-resizing facility" in Photobucket.  If I save a picture larger than 1mb it wont accept the picture with no offer to adjust anything.   In order to save four pictures to photobucket I have to keep the picture sizes below 250kb otherwise it is back through the file system each time to upload a picture.  I take all my pictures in RAW format as it allows me to adjust light and color if I need to, I have a very poor light situation where I take pictures so I have to use a tripod and timed release of the shutter so I don't transmit any shakiness to the image eventhough my camera is set to minimize movement.  Then I have to save my pictures at a size that will keep them below 250kb.  Anyway not to worry I'll deal with it.

Go with what you find the most enjoyable Bones! Personally I do the full WIP type blog as it helps me not only document what I'm doing on the current build but also creates an automatic reference for future projects so I can remember what I did the next time I want to do it again!

I agree about the Photobucket thing but it works and I would hate to see someone having to be on guard 24/7 for over-sized photo's which could certainly be classified as work which I always avoid and do not like to cause it for others.

And I will of course always do what works and is fun.  I realize that there are other more fortunate individuals that are more organized in their thought process that keeping track of their work just comes as a second nature while I struggle with it but there is always away around it which I what I will do.
