Hi guys,
Here is one of my latest builds.
This is the Trumpeter BTR-60PB Upgraded version.
I started this before the Christmas Holidays of 2012 and just managed to finish it last week.
The kit has a different configuration than the standard PB variant.
It actually started on the lines of a PB variant but upgraded with a BPPU turret and a new engine deck much similar to the engine deck of BTR-80.
The BPPU turret houses a automatic 2A42 30mm cannon similar to BMP-2; 7.62mm machineguns and an AG-17 Plamya 30mm automatic grenade launcher.
6 smoke mortars and assortment of optics and sensors are also installed on the new turret.
This configuration gave the BTR an edge in engaging light armor, infantry, as well as low-flying helicopters and aircrafts.
The kit is molded with grey styrene and presented wit a cean cut detailing.
Interior details are handy as you can opt to assemble it or not.
I chose to assemble it but just leave tha hatches open for some variety with my other Soviet APCs.
Suspensions are quite tricky to build as they contain some fragile parts though alignment is not much of a problem.
For the painting and weathering, I used Tamiya acrylics, enamels; Testor enamels as well as Vallejo acrylics.
I used the 3-tone Russian camouflage for this kit.
The 3 tone camouflage consists of a mixture of Tamiya Dark Yellow + Flat White for the sand color; Flat Green + Flat White + Flat Yellow for the green color and Black/Nato Black for the black color.
The undersides were left with plain green color.
Headlamps were painted with Testors Chrome Silver which I find better thn Tamiya chrome paints.
Tail lights were painted with Tamiya Flat Red while the periscopes were finished with Vallejo Periscopes paint.
Finishing mediums that were used are oil paints for the washes, Vallejo pigments and AK Interactive streaking grimes and rust grimes.
Here are some of the photos:
Here are some close up shots of the dirt, mud, grime et al.
Some of the interior shots:
I did add some 'livery' on the inside of the vehicle as I thought that the turret can be pulled out.
It turned out it cannot be as the ammunition box will not allow the turret to be pulled out if you fixed it already.
Here it goes:
Some posters to keep the troops 'company' .
Enjoy guys!
Cheers!
