Hi Bones. The pictures of the Katyusha in St. Petersburg show an inner door that looks like it's mostly wood. The outer seems to be covered with sheet metal. It also looks like the basic cab is sheet metal attached to a wooden frame. You are correct with the wooden cab ZIS trucks. I can't find any pictures of them being used for the launchers. Check out this link: www.primeportal.net/artillery/yuri_pasholok/bm-13_zis-6_based/. There's a whole bunch of pictures of a very early Katyusha in St. Petersburg (it might even be a prototype).. Thanks again for all of the interest.

Thanks guys. Dicky: I will try to not bore you again. Clint: It is real wood (as the real doors were). Andy: Thank you very much. I really think you will see her in person in Indianapolis in March.

That photo site is one of the best for this subject except for how the ignored the engine but I often wish I could find a site with that much detail.
Here is the door in question.
And here is a blow up of that door, the small gear-head you see projecting from the composition material covering the inside of the door is the stub that would normally have a cranking knob on it for raising and lowering the window down into the void below the window which tells me the door is made as I thought with a wooden outside frame and hollow between the metal outside and some kind of composition material covering the void and window cranking mechanism which is how these vehicles were basically made from 1928 to 1938 in the USA and probably much longer in the Soviet Union using that aged manufacturing setup much longer than the USA makers did.

Bruce
Getting a much better view of the door material in the larger format of the post I can now see that the interior covering is thin sheets of wood as you have depicted in your build, sorry for any confusion.

Hi again guys. Here's a small update. I have pretty much finished the back of the cab. The seat and floor should be next on the "hit list". The other assemblies here are the front battery box, and he launch control box. I am thinking I will cover the seat with cloth fastened with the old fashioned "liquid plastic" (sprue dissolved in lacquer thinner). I anybody has any less smelly ideas, I'm all for it.

real wood- now that's cool. how about using 3m spray adhesive for the seats? Ive used it a couple of times for similar stuff and it works pretty good.

Dicky: Thank you very much. You flatter me sir. Bill: I thank you, too. The progress is slow (but steady). Clint: Thanks for the idea. I think I'll experiment with a few things and use the one I like the most.
Hopefully I will have more to post very soon.

Hello again everybody. I'm making some good progress on Katy's cab. I should have a few pictures of her in a few days. While I have been waiting for the glue and paint to dry over the course of the past few months, I have been building the base of the launcher. Here's a picture of what I have so far. Thanks to all of you again.

Bruce
Been off with the holiday so I am catching up here, the work is great even though some of the parts are the pre-trained type that do the hard part by themselves. Keep it up.

Thank you Bones. She is coming along. By the way, I will be getting some of the Archer louvers pretty soon. I also found an old Academy 1932 Ford. I think I can use the front fenders from it to make the formers for Katy's front fenders. Thank you again for all of the help and support.
