Hey blokes, just wanted to let off some steam about exorbitant postage prices!
Squadron is having a sale at the moment on Eagle Strike and Aeromaster decals, all sheets for 2 bucks each. "Bargain!" I hear you say, and rightly so!
So I head on over to the website, and find a couple of sheets that tickle my fancy, chuck 'em in the shopping cart and head over to the checkout. Four bucks well spent. Bargain indeed! Imagine my surprise, when the checkout shows a shipping cost of "up to" $55!!! WHAT THE...??
That's right folks, a five and another five together with a dollar sign in front. Fifty five bucks! Now I know that postage has gone up in the US, and Australia is a long way from anywhere, but this is just taking the piss, surely? How can one justify that sort of cost, when I pick up sheets from other US based distributors and they hit me less than ten bucks? One thing I can tell you, sure as apples is apples, I ain't payin' $59 for two decal sheets!!
Now I know there is the "up to" clause in there, but as far as I am concerned, that is no way to run a business. You can't put "up to" $55, and expect that the client is just going to hope it's less and wear the cost no matter what. People will walk away with a very bad taste in their mouths, as I have done. They should at the absolute least be able to give me a ball park figure if nothing else. If the likes of HLJ can give you a running total as you order, including postage, why can't Squadron??? And if this is what they will charge me, why the heck are they still in business?? Are they trying to alienate the rest of the world and just service the US? They are certainly going the right way about it! You would think in this day and age, where more and more people are tightening their purse strings, they would do everything possible to service overseas customers as well as domestic.
Now I hope that I have misjudged them, and I have been ranting about nothing. Maybe the postage would have been bugger all. Unfortunately there is nothing on their website to indicate that (not that I could see anyway), and I am not willing to risk getting slugged $55 for postage on something that should only cost me ten bucks tops.
Has anyone else outside the US had this sort of issue hit them in the face? Would be keen to know. I know the postage on the Eduard PE sets I got directly from the Eduard site a while back was pretty pricey, but nothing like this, and they were "Big Ed" sets. Unfortunately Squadron will no longer have my business until they are able to give me a little more realism with the postage. Shame, as I had bought from them in the past, and they always seemed reasonable.....
OK lads, sorry to bend your ears, just needed to vent to some folks who would unnerstan'
Hope all is well with y'all!
Cheers,
Sam
