Leon, I cheated. I took some Durhams water putty, mixed it thin and spread it on the varnished base. Then I went to my backyard, dug up and sifted some of that good old Mojave desert soil. I sprinkled that onto the wet putty. I added lichen bushes I found in a craft store.
Thank you sir! The stowage is from various bits and bobs with a scrtach built rack.

I do remember this one... great seeing it again. NOTHING can beat authentic desert sand... maybe you should send us some?
