OK Lads, I'm sure you've all been there.. Boredom sets in! So.. Time to step out of my comfort zone and attempt something I haven't done in about 25 years.. Yep, that as well, before you all start! Poking about in the loft the other day yielded a choice find, a bag of Historex bits & bobs I'd forgotten about! Now, me being the archetypal Yorkshireman.. You can see what's coming, can't you! The next project, a Napoleonic Dragoon c.1812. Now these Historex parts, some of them are well detailed but, the poses! Tailors dummies look better! Time for a bit of hacking and putty methinks! First up, a fair bit of rescribing, followed by sawing the bits apart and joining with flexible wire, so I could get the pose right. I wanted to make it look like an 'After action' sort of pose, so it took a fair amount of messing about to get it right. The pose was then solidified with putty. A resin head i had laying around comleptes it. Needs a moustache though! I think it's starting to look OK... To get the pose right, first off I had to make the scenery. The pavement was cast in plaster from a mould from J's Works. I had to cut it to size, then smarten up the edges to match the rest of the stones. The wall was carved from two blocks of plaster. One for the wall and one for the coping. So, that's where I'm up to so far. Still a long way to go but, this is going to be a learning curve for me. All the best Lads, Gary

Now that's a cool way to get the pose you want. Going to be neat to watch this one come to life.

OK Fellas, Little update.... Managed to get a bit more done. Finalised the pose, more putty and more rescribing! Here's where I'm up to.. I'll be going back to it and re-doing the right side of the coat. Not satisfied with that at all! The Missus is cursing me now.. I was supposed to be converting the loft and came across these bits I also found some old Airfix 54mm I'd forgotten about, so watch this space! Still plenty to do, so keep an eye out, Lads! All the best, Gary BTW, I haven't forgotten the WW2 Stuff.. Got something on the go for that too!

Sculpting figures? I'd say that definitely qualifies for "out of comfort zone"!

Been trying to work out what was wrong with this pose and, I think I've got it. The mid-section is too long! When the human body is in a sitting position, the spine compresses. I think it needs a couple of mm taking out below the waistcoat. It's surprising what you see on photos, but not on the figure itself! I'd appreciate a bit of advice here from the figure sculptors before I start hacking away. Definitely not as easy as I thought! Over to you,Lads? Gary

Good spot Paul! Just tried it myself and I see what you mean. Time for the razor saw methinks! Thanks for that one, mate.. You may just have saved this from the circular filing cabinet! All the best, Gary.
